Hi and welcome :). I don't often get down to the NT section as its too quiet.
I live in Humpty Doo. I've been in the NT now for 8 years :) I'm currently in the RAAF but am looking to transfer to Police Auxilliary sometime next year. I have an almost 5mo daughter Raleigh :)

Hi all, I live in sydney but DH's been offered a job in a resort near Uluru and were thinking of moving up there.
Whats it like living in N.T.? I'm a city girl born and bred so I'm a bit unsure about going to live in the outback :p
Any info helpful :D

Depends if you want the truth lol
I'm a city girl as well and thrown from Brisbane to Katherine to a community in Arnhem Land and back. I have to say i prefer the city, i miss shopping :( Uluru is 5 hrs from shops as well. I have never been to Alice Springs and i don't think we ever will head down there. The NT is different thats for sure. People are laid back, almost too much at times. I feel behind the times when i hear of things happening back home. I've also had some good times, made alot of great friends but I hope we arent here too long lol
I never thought i would wear thongs but i do now
There are no such things as days of the week, everyday seems like a weekend, bbq's all the time. Just depends of what you make of it whilst you are here.

Oh and did I mention the crocs :D

Hey babyduck, i must've passed you at the doors in the hospital! My son is 4 weeks old this week, born at RDH on Aug 30th.
How long has you partner left in training? Are you staying Darwin or moving on? We initially chose Kath, did 2 years, then did a couple of years at Ngkurr then back to Kath.Hope to move on to Darwin next year.
Hows everthing going with baby and yourself? The nights are hard here
Cheers Jen

Hey JenNT,

My son James was born on the 21st of August at RDH but we only stayed 1 night before we came home. My husband has 12 weeks left (and counting) of his training. We hope to stay in Darwin for now as this is were all my family is. My husband would like to know what it was like at Ngkurr with a young family.

Things are going ok, trying to juggle an active 5 y.o and bubs is hard but my husband has been a great help. Being at home during the day with just me and bub can be tough too, i dont really get out much. How are things going with you?

Bec..

Hi Babyduck,
Back for the graveyard shift
Life in Ngkurr hey...for some reason im giggling to myself, gawd ok be serious Jen.....it was interesting.
I'm glad we got a bush posting out of the way early. Our theory was doing it whilst the kids were young, before school starts.

Ngkurr consisted of a community, then up a hill to the compound comprising of 3 houses (oic,2nd mem,Voq) watchhouse and station. Our backyard was a helicopter landing pad, that was interesting...move it or lose it kids :D It was an easy way of life once you got used to doing monthly shoppping,we always had someone over for a BBQ whether it be members for court or local teachers, nurses etc and we always went fishing for barra down the Roper everyday. It was certainly a great time spent with the kids and taught them more than any school could.
However im happy to be back in civilisation!! well semi civilisation anyhow
12 weeks to go..downhill half now! We stayed at one of the houses at the Barracks when we had bub last month and i think seeing the fellas doing PT in the morning gave my hubby shivers :p
Anyway better hit the sack before next feed aaaaaaaarrghhhh
Just let me know if there is anything else you'd like to know.
cheers Jen

Hello again

sounds like life in Ngkurr was very interesting!! You're brave doing 2 years in a remote community.. don't think i could.. bet you were glad to be back to some kind of civilisation.. What's Kathrine like? i've only ever stopped there for petrol on the way through to Adelaide, oh and we stopped to look at Edith Falls. How did you like Darwin when you were up here? I guess you wern't up here for very long.. Yeah they start their PT pretty early in the morning.. too early for me..

well i better go, bubs is calling.. thanks for sharing your story

Bec :)

Hi mollykathleen , welcome....

i would love to chat too, i live out in palmerston. I havnt been on here for a couple of weeks, my daughter had the chicken pox over the school holidays. I had to run to my sisters house so that my son ( 8 weeks old ) and my self didnt get them. My DH had to stay home and look after my daughter while i was away........ but , only a fews days after we finaly came home my poor darling son got the spots. So we have had a busy couple of weeks. He is almost over them now so i'm waiting for my turn.

hope everyones doing well. hope i hear from you soon.

Bec :)
