Hi there, I have just moved up to the GC from Melbourne with my husband and my 9 month old son. We had to move for his work, its a really hard move for me cause I am leaving my really close family (my sister has a little girl only 8 days older than my son). I have found the last couple of days really hard cause my ds has been miserable because he is unwell. I feel very isolated even though Im in the middle of the city.

We are renting an apartment in Surfers for 3 months so we can get a feel for where we would like to live, but we're still not sure. We want to rent a 4 bed for around $400 a week, we have looked on realestate.com but really unsure if the suburbs that we are looking at are really as nice as they seem. We have looked at Varsity Lakes which I like but all the houses look the same. My husband is working in Bundall so dont want to be too far from there and we share a car, I dont have the car too often so dont want to be too isolated. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best place to live with friendly people and activities for us to join in??

Thanks heaps, I look forward to reading any replies:rolleyes:

Hi decsmum:wave:

Welcome to the Gold Coast. I totally understand how you are feeling at the moment - I moved from Sydney a couple of years ago and its really hard leaving family and friends behind - I too felt totally isolated:gloomy: ...but trust me, you will love it here!!

I live on the northern end of the GC, so can't really answer your ?? about where to live around Bundall - Ashmore is sort of near Bundall, rents are pretty reasonable - however, getting around the GC is pretty quick comparied to Sydney & Melbourne...the traffic is a breeze - although the bus system isn't that great.

There are mum & bub meet ups posted on here all the time and they are having a family bbq in a few weeks if you are interested. There are also heaps of playgroups on the GC - have a look at the playgroupaustralia website.

Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions, I'm more than happy to help:)

Take care

Hi decsmum, welcome to the Gold Coast! Wow, you're really in the thick of things in an apartment in Surfers, talk about jumping in at the deep end!
I live in the Bundall edge of Surfers Paradise, it's pretty nice, buses to everywhere run along Bundall Rd (though I haven't used them). Surrounding suburbs are Isle of Capri, Chevron Island, Sorrento, Benowa and Southport. Try a search of postcode 4217. But that only gets you close to hubby's work, so you can take the car, not really a lot of children's activities happening in Bundall, sorry, though we do have a nice playgroup on Tuesdays at the Church on Salerno Street. :)

We live at Burleigh waters..& we love it...i never want to live anywhere else. It only takes us 15mins to get into the heart of surfers & 15mins to get the NSW border. We are close to the beach & shops...its Awesome here....Good luck in your search.

Thanks everyone, you are all so welcoming.:yelclap:
We would love to come to the catchup bbq, when and where is it? Im also new to bubhub so not sure if you would reply to this answer here or not???

I know what you mean about jumping in the deep end living in Surfers, its just so busy and loud. I know you probably say that Melbourne is like that too, but I come from the burbs and I find Melbourne a little less....... (I was looking for the word but it is just less). I love being near the water though, its just so nice to go for a walk along the esplanade and I dont mind the warmer weather either.

Well thanks again and I look forward to getting to know you all better soon.

hi, how arer you,, you will love it up here,, just a tip, varsity lakes is off burmuda street, that takes you too bundall, and is probably the most heavily congested street on the coast in peak traffic, right through to ferry road, if i were you i would start looking around benowa,, ashmore , broadbeach waters or southport where you can avoid these streets , they will be better as far as public transport goes,, anyway good luck..oh , dont go chevron island either,, unless you like waiting at 5 sets of lights before u get through at 5 pm.

i posted the other day but for some reason it did not work
so hi again:wave:
if you need to rely on public transport id stick to the gold coast highway. once you move inland or too far north the buses go from being every 10 minutes (on the coastal road) to once an hour. we love hope island its a really friendly spot but you need a car.
you will find the majority of us are ex sydneyers or melbourners and plenty of kiwis here so you will meet heaps of lovely ladies who understand the emotions of being away from family and friends (esp around xmas and birthdays suck) but you will be bringing you kids up in a great area with great schools, plenty for them to do, and every oppurtunity for them to grow and expand. good luck with everything. look forward to seeing you at a meet.
