My 15 week old has eczema covering the majority of her body. Have tried numerous things(some that were suggested on this site) but no luck as yet. was wondering if anyone has tried Hopes relief eczema cream or Xma, if so any luck? If anyone has used a rememdy that worked please let me know.

Hi marismum,
my DD had eczema quite bad from about three months, i too like you tried everything. We were using dermeze (i think that's how it's spelt) it's like a vaseline type consistency. We also switched to all 100% cotton clothes, as anything else would flare it up, started using hamiltons, bath oil & body wash. And kept her in cloth nappies until she was 7 months. All of this helped but never fully got rid of it, in the end we ended up having to get her a quarterzone cream of 0.01% so very low and that seemed to help everything, She is 2 and a half now, and has grown out of it, she occasionally gets a little bit behind her knees but a little bit of the quarterzone and its gone the next day, but we also still try to stick to the cotton clothing and keep using the hamiltons oil & body wash.
Hope some/any of this helps!
Good luck i know exactly what you are going through!! :)

My 2 1/2 year old DD gets awful eczema and we still haven't found anything that works fantastically. It is all pretty much expensive trail and error :(
One tip would be don't use anything that has fragrance or perfume in it such as baby oil.
You can't really cure eczema, you can only try and control it and relieve it.
My boy has had eczema for 2 years now.
The only things we have been using long term is Dermeze and Pinetarsol.
All the best with it.
My son is 9 and I am still yet to find something to successfully control it long term. Atm it is so bad that he cant even go to school :gloomy:
Oh that is terrible Coops.:hugs:
I can see my boy having troubles at school too.

I'm up in Brisbane, so I don't know how useful this will be for you, but I know of a chinese herbalist/doctor up here that has had unbelievable results with treating eczema.
I used to work at a child care centre, the director there used to reccomend him to parents of children with eczema. Some of the children were in my class and I was totally stunned at how well the kid's skin responded to the treatment.
PM me if you are interested and I'll get his details for you.
We use Hemp Butter from the Body Shop for DS1 legs, clears it up really well. Not sure for a 15 wk old. GAIA sell some excellent products like Baby Mosituriser, www.gaiaskinnaturals.com (http://www.gaiaskinnaturals.com/), you have to shop around to find a chemist that stock it, but its really gentle and smells lovely (Lavender)

It is a possibliy of gluten intolerance. If you are breastfeeding, you will have to look at what you are eating and try to cut out wheat and gluten for a bit to see if that has an effect. If formula feeding, you will have to look at the ingredients and use one that has no gluten or wheat products.
Also, don't use ANYTHING with perfume or fragrance on her skin. I think I said that before, but definately don't use baby oil.
The best wash is to coat her down in unscented sorbelene cream and wipe it off.
You will also have to look at what you are washing her clothes in.
I know it's tough but maybe you have been able to catch the trigger early on which might make it more managable. We had only just started using the oatbath before discovering it was a terrible failure and that it is possibly because of gluten and that has taken us over 2 years of heartache.
Good luck :hugs:

chellegoth,
yeah I was thinking it might be gluten and have already cut it out of my diet to see if it makes a difference. Sorbelene actually irratates her skin so we have started using dermeze to keep her skin moist.
she has just started on a 10 course of cortisone cream(not to happy but have to try to get it under control) If that settles it down hope to keep it at bay by keeping skin moist and diet etc.
thanks for the well wishes
I hope that you find some relief for your litttle girl, 4weeks of this has been tough cant imagine 2 years, so best of luck:hugs:

I suggest getting your dd allergy tested, it depends on where you are but alot of allergy clinics have long wait lists (5mths+) so add your dd's name to the list now!
We used the elimination diet which was very successful for our son, he was only 7mths when we used this diet and as i was bfing i was on the diet more than ds
It took a couple of months but all his eczema went away and has stayed away for about a year now. We got the elimination diet from the allergy clinic but im sure they send out copies if you just ring around your area.
also stuff to stay away from whilst bfing
Dairy products
strawberries
citrus fruits
gluten (if you think its gluten)
eggs
also our ds is highly allergic to dust mites and this was a big problem as you'll find them everywhere in your house- bedding needs to have dust mite protectors etc, carpets need to be steam cleaned every three months, vacum when your child is out of the house, steam clean heavy drapes, remove stuffed animals etc
We also saw a highly reccomended natropath who has done wonders for
son, she was $ but it was worth it as its all natural which is important when dealing with tini tiny babies
Good luck and i hope she gets better soon, its horrible and effects little ones in every aspect- their sleep is hindered, they are unsettled and irritable!
I use sorbolene 3 times daily on both my children, and again after bathing. Also have a cortisone cream for any patches that dont respond. I absolutely love sorbolene and sometimes cover myself in it before showering if my skin is playing up.

Yesterday I bought some eczema cream and a mixture to take from a compounding pharmacy for my DS (compounding pharmacies make their own mixtures, like all pharmacies did YEARS ago). He is 6 months old, fully breastfed, and had eczema on his torso.
The pharmacist also instructed me to take a minimum of 6000mg of fish oil per day, so he will get it via the breast milk.
I'll report back in a week or so as to how it has gone.

It's been 24 hours, and it is much improved already. I'm quite surprised.

what sort of fish oil are you using? i have heard some also are good for asthma as well which my ds also has.
i have narrowed the possible trigger of eczema in ds to one thing now strawberries but we have to get allergy test to be sure.
sorbelen cream seems to have done wonders for ds's skin :) it doesnt look as dry

Go to the doctor or dermatologist and get a script for Elidel. Its a non steroid excema cream. Fantastic.
I suffered with sever excema for many years.
Cotisones are great fr really bad outbreaks, but you could keep it under control with Elidel. You can get lower dose creams for little children.

I'm taking 2 Blackmore's pregnancy and breastfeeding formula, and 5 blackmore's Fish Oil 1000 capsules.
DS doesn't like the mixture he is taking, but it seems to be doing the job, so I will be persevering with it. The mixture is a certian ratio of Sodium Citrate, calcium and magnesium, with a natural flavour added. I don't know what's in the cream.
I do know that when I started taking fish oil to prevent PND after DD#2 (5.5 years ago), my own eczema improved out of sight.
all my kids have had exma but dom he had reaction to shots with all of them i only wash with oats in a stocking make sure if you do this use as much goo when squessing it dont make bath to warm as it will make exma worse also i found baby sorb with gyliserne is the best paw paw cream works pretty good to but i melt it down a bit also giving cloths extra rince when washing them is very good idea you may have to look at changing washing powder i spent $$$ on creams and scripts and it just didnt work sometimes going back to the basics is the best way

The one-week report as promised.
I've been using Dartnell's Pharmacy Eczema mixture, Eczema cream, and taking huge doses of fish oil myself (DS is breastfed, so he ges it second hand) for just over a week now, and his raging eczema is GONE!!!
A week ago I would not have believed it.
