My GP diagnosed me with having PCOS. Both my sisters have it, i had iregular hormone levels indicating it in blood tests and I have not had a period in 4 months after coming off of the pill....

I have an appointment at Repromed on the 4th August and I was wondering how 'fast' they are to give you something to help... I assume they will put me on Clomid but i am kind of hoping they will just give me the drugs to start on straight away... although in reality im thinking they wont! :D

DH is going for a semen analysis (which they requested, just incase) and the results will be there in time for the appointment. I have my blood test results and have all my BBT charting for the last 4 months which I will bring to the appointment.

My question (after all that rambling!) is... what was their procedure... did you quickly get fertility treatment/drugs of some kind? :detective:

It seems some docs are handing it out willy-nilly and I am wondering if I really need to be going to Repromed if I know what the problem is and at least the first step in treatment is quite simple... ??

THANKS!

Hi nicoleE,

We saw Repromed in Darwin our first appointment was to work out what tests had to be completed and in my case it was an ultrasound and HSG which confirmed PCOS. DH had to do 2 sperm samples and also a blood test to eliminate anything that way. All of DH's results came back fine so it was just me!! All up it was i think 2 months before treatment began (the main reason being waiting for AF to show up for the HSG and ultrasound)

After the initial appointment and getting all of the results in then it was the appointment to book on for treatment. We booked on for Chlomid for a number of months with the 1st cycle monitored. I was put on a fairly low dose due to the risk of overstimulating.

After a number of months we are now booked on for IVF, the process starts early next month.

We have a DD conceived naturally and it was a huge shock to be diagnosed with PCOS but with the way medicine is going now it was such a relief to know that it wasn't the end of our TTC!!

I wish you all the best for your appointment and you may pm me if you have any questions or just want a chat. Good luck and keep us posted.

thanks allot Trendy1, I guess even though we have not been TTC for very long it has been quite frustrating because the whole time I have not ovulated (which tecnically meant we were simply 'waiting' rather than 'ttc'ing'! lol

I am impatient and just want to get some treatment ASAP but i do understand they should do things properly....

thanks again :hugs:

Not a problem. That is what happened with us but i am sure that everyone is different. We found out that i ovulate some months and not others so we were very much a hit and miss for the first probably 12 months which now seems like we just wasted time. But i am sure that everything happens for a reason and hopefully IVF will work for us.

Maybe with you knowing that you have PCOS might be different as we didn't know what our underlying problem was. So Repromed had to run through the tests with us to try to find out what was wrong.

I find Repromed really good though and the nurses are great, anytime you have any questions they are happy to answer them. The fees don't seem to be too bad though either compared with some other places, in Darwin we didn't have a choice they are the only fertility people up here!!

Anyway as I said I wish you all the best and let us know how you go.
