Ds has been falling asleep during some feeds lately, I've been picking him up to burp him and then he won't go back to sleep and gets all grumpy and a nightmare to put him back down.
I'm wondering if it's ok to leave him sleeping without burping him?
Advice really needed :)

I found as they got older they dont need as much burping. If he is asleep and happy I would leave him - if he has wind he will tell you. My rule is NEVER wake a sleeping baby :)

I would never wake a baby to burp him/her.

I'm reluctant to wake any small baby for any reason.

I dont burp my kids, when they are getting grumpy cause they are windy i pick them up & out it comes.

I never wake a sleeping baby, unless i have a dam good reason.

Never!! Unless you know not burping him will cause him to wake in a short time

I used to do the same as TT.

DD used to fall asleep having her bottle all the time. I just nursed her upright for a little bit then popped her in her cot. Often she would grizzle a bit about 1/2 hr later, so I would pick her up ... out would come an enormous burp and pop her back down.

I would only wake bubs if he/she was waking up later with major tummy pains .....

This is a good question. I don't usually burp DS after the dream feed, but the other night he woke at 1am screaming. I picked him up he burped then happily went back to sleep.

I have never burped him after a dream feed and thought about it last night but he was so asleep it seemed pointless. Not sure I'm going to try, just hope I don't have any more of these wake ups.

Not sure this helped but can relate.

I don't really 'burp' dd after a feed, if she's asleep I put her straight down, if she's awake and having some play time I take the opportunity to have a cuddle, she'll only let me cuddle her for so long before it will suddenly be uncool to cuddle mum  so better make the most of it now

In the early days, I always said "no" but DS is SOOO sensitive to wind and if I don't burp him still (at 11 months), the wind travels down and gives him tummy troubles so regardless of whether he's asleep or not, we always burp him. I do it really carefully and just prop him up on my shoulder and he stays pretty sleepy if not asleep.

I was worried about him waking up screaming with a sore belly, but I left him today and he was good. He hasn't fallen asleep with any night feeds just the day ones, so I don't know if he'll wake in the middle of the night but I will leave him from now on.
Thanks for the advice it was very helpful. I can be so unsure of things sometimes :o

I have struggled with wind so I used to always burp after feeds. Now if he falls asleep I just cuddle him into me upright and gently rub his back on the way to putting him to bed. If he burps it is a bonus if not he'll wake before I go to bed and all I have to do is pick him up and he'll burp and go straight back to sleep :) I suggest to just go with a bit of trial and error. Try not to wake him if you don't have to.
Good luck.

Not at night, unless she is uncomfortable. I figure the gas will go out the other end eventually lol

Yes I did, otherwise it usually resulted in waking up to a big spew or a really unsettled baby. But all babies are different, some don't need the help but my dd did.

Unless your bub has a general problem with bringing up wind I wouldn't bother waking him to burp him.

I stopped burping my youngest child when he was about 4 months old. However, he was very good at bringing up wind himself.

I reckon give it a go and see how it works for both you and bubs.
