I need help!

I have a guy coming today to lay carpet in one of our rooms and he has quoted me between $150 - $180 to install including foam underlay (room is 3.25m x 2.65m).

I was ok with this until I read that this is way too expensive!

I can't cancel now as he is on his way but what do you think? Have I been ripped off? Is this a fair sort of price if he is good at his job?

Oh, and I forgot to say that we already have the carpet ourselves.

Any advice would be great!!!!

Sounds reasonable to me if he does a good job :)

Out of interest, where did you hear $50?

Yay, thank you! As long as someone thinks it is reasonable I am happier.

The $50 was from a friend of mine but she lives in Adelaide so I am not sure if that would make a difference. She had the carpet laid in her whole 3 bedroom house for under $400!

I actually work for a major flooring company at the H/O and can say that even as a huge manufacturer- our labour price is approx $23.00 per metre & the cost price of underlay is about $10-$15.00.

It sounds reasonable to me - remember that most of the cost for any tradesperson is for them to actually come to your house and that is built into the cost - so it is a fallacy for your friend to divide her total cost by the number of rooms she had done (or however she came up with a ridiculous figure like $50!).

Are you happy with the job? Hope it looks good!

Thanks for the advice. I am happy with the job and he was very quick. It cost me $180 which is fine. Thanks again....now, where to buy a cupboard.......:)
