I am hoping somebody can help me out. DH and I want to TTC #2 towards the end of this year or start of next year.

Because of this I have been monitoring my cycles. before my last visit from AF I went 83 days with no period. This time there was 52 days been periods. Sorry if TMI.

I have no idea when I ovulate and would like to regulate my cycle as soon as possible.

Does anybody have any suggestions of how I can do this??

I have tried Vitex (gave me very bad headaches), FF, OPK's and Maybe baby.

Are you breastfeeding? I have heard that can effect your cycle length...:detective:

read through my answer to this post as I think it may relate to yours also http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?t=30361

If you often have irregular periods you may want to get checked out. For instance (NOT saying you have this) many women suffer from PCOS and have little symptoms except for very irregular periods.

Some people have mantioned Maka powder for regulating cycles however I have not looked into it yet myself.... Also, if you are into alternative therapies Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine may help, however these can work out expensive (I am doing it currently) and you may not get a result or the result may be slow.

BTW if you are already monitoring your cycle using BBT and you still cannot tell when you ovulate you may not be at all, your bleeding could be anovulatory and due to the build up of the lining. In this case I would definately go see a fertility specialist to get checked out.

If there is a problem you cant just regulate your cycle, and there can be a problem even if you have succesfully conceived a child or children previously with no troubles.

I hope you have some luck soon though. :hugs:

Thanks, I did forget to mention that I have PCOS!! Vital info I know.

I have tried herbal remedies and it worked before we concieved DS but isnt doing anything this time.

I think I might see my GP again, she couldnt do anything last time I saw her but worth another shot I think.

I have PCOS too, but after DS thankfully my periods have regulated back to 28-35 days. We are trying for no. 2 at the moment but with no luck, but I had some blood test tracking of 2 cycles to confirm that I am definately ovulating which is something! I would definately get some blood tests done so that you know what is happening. Diet (a low GI diet) can often help. Other than that, Vitex is the only other option I have head of. Did you have long cycles when you conceived first time? Not long after I was diagnosed with PCOS, I took one dose of clomid and it worked first time reulting in DS. My gyn told me that when I had periods of 55 days that I wasn't ovulating, and that my eventual period was just the body shedding lining which had built up too much. Anyway, hope everything works out for you.

I have found vitex has really helped shorten my cycles... are you drinking plenty of water to help with headaches, as vitex can also help fluid retention so may be taking away your body fluids from you so you need to drink extra water while on it.

Hi All,

We have been TTC#1 for just over a year now. I also have out of whack cycles and I don't have PCOS (so what the heck is going on??) My current cycles is now up to day 125. My last one was 30days, the one before (which I thought was the longest) was 108 days. Before that they averaged 28 - 48 days. We've been recording the lengths since May '05. Recently I started recording BBT and brought a Maybe Baby, but to be honest I haven't noticed any difference and most of the time have 'stretchy white'. So any suggestions?? I got checked for PCO about 3 yrs ago out of curriosity as hubby & I have been together 8yrs, and even without 'trying' I was suprised we hadn't conceived yet. He did a test earlier this year, not great but still ok. My doctor wanted me to do a LH level test, which requires bloods pre & post ovulation, but thats hard as I never know when that is... I am open to any suggestions. Apart from continuing to record info there probably isn't much we can do is there? Our Dr said to wait until we've been trying for 2 yrs, then they'll refer us to a specialist - has anyone else encountered this? Considering I am 23 (nearly 24) and hubby is 25, and most of our friends had kids at the drop of a hat - including a friend with endrimetriosis, I can't help but get worried. Any help would be appreciated, and I hope this helps you to not feel alone - I know all about irregular periods and the hassle the cause TTC.

Maybe you should be tested again for pcos or perhaps seek a second opinion?

Yeah I have been contimplating seeing another Dr. I really trust our family DR, but 2yr wait when things definately aren't working... !! I have always been out of whack, so it's not like it's odd, just the length between has now gotten so long that I figure I must not be ovulating or something...

Yeah something must be up. It never hurts to get second opinions on anything. Good luck and let us know what happens hey.:fingerscrossed:

In answer to the original post - I have PCOS and had long cycles. The solution for me was clomid - gave me regular cycles of 35 days and, most importantly, I ovulated. Worth asking your GP to refer you to a gynie for more assistance I would say.

Does this work for anyone - like even if you don't have PCOS? I've heard a few people mention it...

It is only prescribed for certain conditions - "not ovulating" being the main one to my knowledge. I think you should get a second opinion - see a specialist rather than a GP if you aren't getting answers.

Trisha I certainly wouldnt be happy to wait 2 years!

If your doc wanted to test your LH levels then perhaps they think you may still have PCOS? You dont have to have actual cysts present to have PCOS, so if the original test you had was only an ultrasound that came back clear then it cant be ruled out. I would certainly be getting a second opinion and fertility help.

Hi All, just wanted to give an update.

I saw a really great Dr on monday who has put me on some tablets to trigger my period since I am now up to around day 130 of this cycle. He also wants to see me every 2 weeks to monitor weight loss (I am 83kgs) and wants me to change some things in my diet (cut all sugar if possible, limit dairy, have fresh vege's and meat alot etc) Worth a try. He said if that doesn't seem to do anything then he'll refer me on. He isn't going to wait 2 yrs!! He also wants me to do some blood tests for hormone levels and diabetes etc. I am glad I saw this guy because he seemed quite concerned with the irregularity and length of my period. Better than our family Dr! Will keep you posted.

Trisha, that's good that you have seen another doctor and things are starting to happen.
Our situation is slightly different to yours, as it was my hubby that had low fertility. But it took us 5 years of being stuffed around and we then went through insemination to get where I am today. I am now an older mum because of this (36). So my advise to people who are having problems conceiving is to be insistant with the doctors and get on a reprouctive program if necessary, because he clock is always ticking.
Good luck, I wish you every success soon :)

Thanks for that & Congrats! :smiliedance:

Lots of people I know have mentioned that it took them a while & then it happened, but then so many I know just have it happen all the time...

I definately think getting pro-active & chasing it up is good, because you never know if there is something that needs fixing or boosting in order for it to happen!!
