Help! Corin has a sore red bum - the red bits feel a lot like sandpaper.

I'm hoping that its just nappy rash - I've been using a nappy rash cream for about the last 4 days - its steadily been getting worse for the last 5 days or so - started off as a single red mark - and now its in blotches all over his bum.

Can any one tell me if it is nappy rash - or not - and what the best way to treat it is?

Hi there it sounds just like a rash my son had after he was born, my grandma put me onto this paw paw ointment, it comes in a red tube and you can buy it at the chemist, it works miracles you can use it on verything from nappy rash to burns and pimples, it's very reliable and not too expensive, it's all natural and if your still breastfeeding you can use it for your nipples too. Islanders have the best cures for everything and I've lived on this stuff now for almost 5 years give it a go

Firstly, hi Shaelia!
If you find you have no luck with the paw paw, you might need something with an anti fungal or cortisone. I had to to clear up my DD's rash. Go and have a chat to the chemist.

Hi Happy Lady!!! :D Missed talking to all the bubhubbers too much to stay away for ever! :)

Thanks, I'll try the chemist too. I've got a fortnight to clear this up before we're away for a week - hope we can do it!

Hi Shaelia

I would also suggest an anti fungal mixed with a cortisone (sigmacort)
This works wonders if the nappy rash has become fungal

poor little guy

good luck

Oh Shaelia :hugs:
We have been wondering where you have been !!!! You've been missed

As HL & SM have said if the paw paw doesnt work i would definately look at something anti-fungal as it sounds like it may need this.

Corin is adorable !
Hope all is well :)

I'll try and be on more often. Corin has discovered the keyboard though  (Ilost half an assignment last week!)

Will talk to you later...

We bath our little guy in Bi- carb twice a day and apply an anti fungil.

He had a shocker when his molars came in and this worked a treat.

I swear by cornflour....have found that if the cornflour didnt clear it up within 36hrs, then it was more like funal and needed some anti-fungal cream. For that, we used Canestan.

Hope you can get it cleared for poor bubba...

We've also found a rash on the side of his stomach and on his front below the diaper line - do you think it's related? We've been using baby powder for the last few days as DH swears by it. At first his bum seemed better, but now there's this rash??! I don't know what to do!

Shaelia perhaps there is an allergy happening...?

Have you seen a GP..?
Wouldnt hurt just to rule anything else out plus they could give you an idea if they think the nappy area is fungal

I regards to powders the Curash Powder is awesome !!!

Going to see the Dr next Friday ( !!!) It's the eairlest appointment she had! Must be flu season or something.

Tried curash powder - the first time we used it was eairly on (when his bum wasn't so red) and it worked really well, but the next time we used it....not so good. Poor little guy! :crying:

can you try as much air as possible. i wouldn't put anything oil based on it (like paw paw) as it will keep the heat in.

cornflour will dry it out and kep it fresh but not much else.

other wise try a calendula CREAM (not ointment) from the health food shop or good chemist

I was told by a clinic nurse to try Daktozin. Apparently after having nappy rash for a few days it turns fungal so an anti-fungal cream will help clear it up. I use it on my DD and I swear by it

Having had a very similar rash to what you describe for FOUR weeks (and I tried everything!) I can swear by:

*nappy free time. I started feeding DD with no nappy and it made a huge difference. It's hard in winter but it works. Oh, and with no barrier cream on she did cry every time she weed which was hard :( but made the world of difference in clearing it up

*cortisone based cream. I used Hydrozole for 7 days and it helped a lot but still didn't get rid of it completley. I now use Daktozin any time she gets a red spot and it works miracles. I think the key is catching it early.

and the most amazing nappy rash cure ever...

*wiping with face washers dipped in cooled chamomile tea. This was what finally cleared up my DD's rash after a month. I just made a big bowl of it and sat it beside the change table with a pile of face washers. Magic stuff!

Nappy free time is great. My DS often has nappy free time. I generally use Calmoseptine or Bepanthen if it's really bad, which happens rarely.
