View Full Version : PCOS and Clomid questions.
Hi all, i was told yesterday that i have PCOS and i have been given Clomid. I just have a few questions, if anyone could answer i would really appreciate it.
1. For those of you with PCOS who took Clomid and fell pregnant, how many rounds of Clomid did you have to take before it worked?
2. Do you have any side effects from taking Clomid? I know the possible side effects, i just want to know how common they are.
3. Did Clomid change the pain and heaviness of your periods? I used to get them really badly but since being off the pill they're really light and relatively pain free so i'm interested to know that if i'm ovulating properly will it go back to the way it used to be?
4. Has anyone fallen pregnant on Clomid and had a miscarriage? I'm sorry if that's too personal.
5. Has anyone had multiple pregnancies due to Clomid? I've been told that i have a 10 percent chance of getting the twins i've always wanted! :D
I think that's all i need to know for now. Thanks! :)

Puk :hugs: sorry you have PCOS. BUT you will be fine
1. I got pg on my second round of Chlomid.
2. The only side effect I remember having is hot flushes. Was lucky.
3. Chlomid didn't change my AFs. They were the same as usual.
4. I have not m/c because of clomid. DD is proof! :D Although you'll see that I m/c with second pg. Wasn't on clomid to conceive. It was a surprise pg  Drs don't know why it happened/could'nt find the reason. Point is..... there is always a chance you will fall pg naturally!
5. No not me. However, the cycle I conceived my ovaries released more than one egg, but it wasn't meant to be.
All the best for TTC and here's to a possiblity that you may get pg with twins! :fingerscrossed: If you have any more questions or wanna chat feel free to pm me!

Hi Puk, only got minimal answers for you:
Side effects - hot flushes, and some crampiness, nothing like the majorly severe crampiness of the past (which sounds like what you had).
I didn't fall preg, but it must not have worked anyway cause no AF followed.
That was last August, didn't get a chance to do 2nd round as no AF (they can inject you with something to start AF but I chose not to)
Chemical preg in December, not Clomid related.
Was going to start it again at next AF but it never came (BFP in June).
Hope it works for you, my Gyn usually has success by round 3 he says, so pretty quick considering
Hi Puk,
I was diagnosed with PCOS this year also. We have done quite a few rounds of Chlomid - it was only a fairly mild dose due to the risk of overstimulating. Each month i ovulated and released 1 egg each time (we know that from the scans). None of our attempts were successful and we are now beginning the IVF journey - we have been TTC for nearly 2 years now and are ready to take the next step. The Chlomid didn't alter AF at all that i noticed. I didn't get any side effects from the Chlomid, we were expecting the mood swings but i didn't get them. I have heard of people taking Chlomid getting pregnant with twins and our doctor advised us of that risk. Anyway i am probably not too much help. Good luck with everything.
Thanks for the replies so far ladies! I like to overload myself with information and it's helpful to hear about other's experiences before i go through it myself. :)

Puk - though PCOS isn't the answer that you wanted, its an answer - and one I'm sure your relieved to have finally discovered!
Though I have never been on it, I have heard good reports about Clomid. Best Wishes with it all! We're all holding your hand along the way :hugs:

Hey Pukkles....
So glad to hear that you are getting some answers!! :yelclap:
Here's hoping that its the answer you have been waiting for :fingerscrossed: :D
Good luck!! :)
Puk
Glad you are getting answers. Now for my answers:
I fell pregnant on the 6th round of clomid. I had bad mood swings (worse than usual) and hot flushes. No multiple birth (it was the first question I asked at the ultrasound) and no miscarriage on clomid. I found it a bit stressful as I had to count days, have blood tests, wait for AF and start again - and all the while people were telling me to relax and it would happen! Aaarrrggghh! That was the worst side effect! Anyway that was for DD1. My subsequent two pregnancies have been without the assistance of clomid - my body finally worked out what to do!:smiliedance: Good luck and go for it!

Hi Puk,
The news is not all bad - knowledge is power!!! To answer you q's:
1. I have been on Clomid (1 tab days 5-9) and on my third round (this month) I got a Postive HPT.
2. My side effects were hot flushes and wild mood swings. Really hard to control myself at times!!!! But it was only for a day or two (usually day 6/7 of cycle).
3. My periods were about the same.
4. Don't want to jinx myself......................
5. Don't know how many buns in the oven yet...............:fingerscrossed: Wouldn't mind twins!
Good luck!!! and :hugs:

Puk while i cant give you my experience my sister has PCOS & was given Clomid she fell pg pretty much straight away from then on but as soon as her doctor confirmed the BFP she was made to go straight onto weekly injections im not sure what of :o this was to help her stay pg as her body would just keep rejecting her babies as though she wasnt pg. This lead to her having my nephew after 5yrs of trying & over 10 m/c  .
Good luck i hope this ends up bringing you the answers you need & helping you move closer to your little miracle.

I was diagnosed with PCOS and conceived after 1 dose of clomid (lowest dose). Can't remember any side effects. Hope you get a BFP soon. :)

Can I ask a few questions to those more experiences -
Have many of you been prescribed Clomid who were not diagnosed with PCOS?
And how long/how many cycles of TTC did you have to go through before you were prescribed it?
Did you go through your GP, or a specialiast?Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I went thru 3 cycles of clomid after diagnosed with PCOS and TTC for 7 months. I fell pregnant on the next cycle after i stopped. I went thru a specialist and had to get blood test in the middle to see if i O'd or not.
:hugs: Finally you have some answers. I have no idea about clomid but wish you all the luck in Queensland :D
Hi Puk.
I've just started on my first round of Clomid and I'm on day 12 of my cycle. I think I'm about to ovlate as I'm getting funny feelings / slight pains in my stomach.
My mood actually seems better on Clomid, as I have been quite up and down and emotional since stopping the Pill in June o7. Side effects have been hot flushes day and night, and my stomach has felt bloated several times. I've been having strange dreams since taking clomid too.
Please work Clomid:wizard:

Hi all, i was told yesterday that i have PCOS and i have been given Clomid. I just have a few questions, if anyone could answer i would really appreciate it.
1. For those of you with PCOS who took Clomid and fell pregnant, how many rounds of Clomid did you have to take before it worked?
I had 4 cycles of clomid, i PCOS too. I didn't get the BFP but i started o'ing again. I am currently on Pruegon.
2. Do you have any side effects from taking Clomid? I know the possible side effects, i just want to know how common they are.
I was tired very, always felt like i wanted to :barf:, and bad headaches.
3. Did Clomid change the pain and heaviness of your periods? I used to get them really badly but since being off the pill they're really light and relatively pain free so i'm interested to know that if i'm ovulating properly will it go back to the way it used to be?
Mine changed they were about the same they were any heaiver or anything like that but they were a lot shorter! WAY shorter!! loved that
4. Has anyone fallen pregnant on Clomid and had a miscarriage? I'm sorry if that's too personal.
Sorry i can't answer that one as i am yet to fall pregnant
5. Has anyone had multiple pregnancies due to Clomid? I've been told that i have a 10 percent chance of getting the twins i've always wanted! :D
i was told that at least 1 of my previous cycles i diffenetly released 2 eggs. May have been more cycles, but i just asked about one. That was at the start of the 3rd cycle, so it may have been more then one cycle.
I think that's all i need to know for now. Thanks! :)
