Hello.

I'm just curious as to whether it's normal to experience sever swelling in the feet, toes, ankles and even legs...

I read somewhere that there is no need for concern about swelling while pregnant unless it appears in the hands and face... I'm 36weeks, and for the past week my feet and legs have just blown up. So bad to the point where i've noticed stretch marks appearing under my knee! The funny thing is - i've only gained 6kg during this whole pregnancy. I've also gained stretch marks on my stomach - but on the upper part of my tummy, closer to my ribs.

I have a huge amount of pressure on the upper part of my stomach though... My baby still hasn't engaged yet and I feel ready to burst. It just won't drop.

But anyway - about the swelling... I knew it was normal for ankles and feet, but my legs too? Is this okay?

I would talk to your Dr or midwife just to rule out pre-eclampsia. Just incase!

I had swollen calves and feet when I was pregnant with DD1 and it was nothing to be concerned about but it kind of happened gradually over a couple of months and it was 35 degrees every day and I was working on my feet all day.

So yeah, I'd get it checked just incase. Good luck ...

AGREE WITH ANNABELLA

As a pre eclampsia turned Eclampsia suffer with previous pregnancy i had no other symptoms other than swollen fat ankles and high blood pressure and protein in urine.
BP and protein were not pick up until i went to ante natal appointment and 2 day s later i had to be induced due to it bein outta control. Ithought nah it nothing coz i aint got swellin anywhere else but i was wrong.

GET CHECKED OUT i say

Agreed I had pre-eclampsia at 31weeks and had to deliver via c-sect my onset was early started with the feet which would go down overnight but then went outta control to the point my ears nose tounge everything was swollen! They will probably just wanna keep an eye on you bp etc but worth an appointment!!!

Hey guys,

Thanks for replying.

I just got a little freaked out that my legs were swollen. And my feet swell up to the point where they feel like they're going to pop.

I have a visit with my OB next week... Hopefully things stay okay till then. I saw my GP yesterday and she didn't seem concerned. My BP is almost always good, usually a little low. So I guess that's a good sign.

I feel like a useless fat mashmellow. I wasn't like this during my first born. I can barely move around. lol

Thanks for the advice. :hugs:

Protein is a bigger sign than the blood pressure. Did you do a urine test?

Otherwise watermelon and swimming will help alleviate the swelling

I've never done a urine test once during this entire pregnancy. I just assumed they don't bother unless there is a reason... Because swelling is so common, I guess my Dr. just won't bother testing me unless my BP is high.

I will talk about it to the hospital when I see them next week. Just to see what they think.

And thanks for giving me an excuse to eat more watermelon. lol
