View Full Version : Thyroid problems.
Hi I am hoping i have posted in the right thread.
Just been diagnosed with underactive thyroid gland, apparently it is
quite bad. Anyone know anything about thyroid disease?
My TSH is 50 and the dr says this is quite bad.
I have to have a thyroid ultrasound to see if I have any nodules or my gland.
This is what is causing me/stoppping me from falling pg.
I would appreciate any advice thanks. Feeling down about this and not
feeling well either. thanks
Hi There
I also have an underactive Thyroid, something that my Dr never diagnosed but my naturopath was aware of after me showing her my charted temps for a month.
Yes it may currently effect your chances of getting pregnant but not forever, only until you treat the problem.
My naturopath has me on a natural remedy which I am really happy with and doesnt effect my chances of getting pregnant and is safe to take while I am pregnant as well.
Maybe do the tests with the Dr and then discuss natural therepies as well.
Good luck :fingerscrossed:

Hi Taylah,
I too have underactive thyroid and was diagnosed when my TSH was 91. You will need to take daily tablets (Oroxine or Thyroxine) but rest assured that this isn't medication as such, it is a hormone. It will regulate all of your levels and is also perfectly safe during pregnancy. I tried natural therapy as well but unfortunately my hypothyroidism was too severe for it to work effectively.
It may take a little while to get your doses right but you will feel vastly better than you do now. My Dr told me that I wouldn't realise how bad I felt at diagnosis until I realised how great I felt when my levels were back to normal and she was right. I had fatigue, panic attacks, a very low immunity (so would pick up every cold and flu etc).
The ultrasound is a precaution although freaked me out the most I think. One thing to remember though, is to continue taking your medication. I was doing really well and then at Christmas time I decided to stop taking my Oroxine as in my mind, I was cured. Unfortunately my levels are still unstable and it is a challenge trying to get them back to normal (all of that hard work and all).
You will need to have regular blood tests whilst they get your dose correct and more regular ones when you are pregnant and pregnancy upsets your hormones a little more.
So rest assured, it is treatable but you need to take it seriously (which I never did at first). All the best and feel free to post any questions. There are quite a few ladies on here with the same thing.:hugs:
I suffered from an overactive thyroid -
I had a thyroidectomy and now am taking thyroxine.
Thyroid disease is awful - I felt awful and couldn't conceive either.
Its important to get it under control.
I wish you all the best.
I also have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). My count was at 70. After some time and blood tests, I am getting closer to the 3 mark (normal is between 0-3). It is manageable and not too much of a hindrance in getting pregnant I shouldn't think.
I was unaware about my thyroid problem until I fell pregnant and the doctors were astounded that I did fall pregnant! So miracles can happen.
But as I said, it is manageable with Oroxine or Thyroxine. This has dramatically improved my condition and I was able to sustain the pregnancy and even breastfeed for some time.
I have more energy, have lost excess weight (the gland also stimulates your metabolism) and generally feel really good. I recommend you see a specialist to find out what is best for you.

this may also have any information or answers to any questions you may have. There are so many resources available on the web. Just remember that it can be managed and it doesn't mean you can never have a baby. Good luck! :fingerscrossed:
Hi Taylah,
How have your thyroid problems gone? Is there anyone else around here with thyroid problems who is reading this thread?

HI Pleep,
I currently have Thyroid problems, I have an overactive thyroid. I have just had the left side of my thyroid removed after a biopsy showed it maybe cancerous, thank god it wasnt!!!
I still now need to deal with the initial overactivity, though this may change now I only have the right side left!!
Are you suffering problems?
