I have heard/read differing opinions on this. Some say just to take it from AF - O. Other says stop taking it when you get a BFP and some say continue to take it until the end of the first trimester - so that progesterone levels don't drop suddenly and cause a miscarriage.

I have started taking it to try and encourage my cycle to come back so we can TTC #5 (Ds3 is 12 months now) but am not sure how long to take it for.

What have others done?

Thanks :shakehands:

I stopped taking it as soon as I got my BFP, but I have read you should really stop taking it after ovulation.

Vitex is a wonderful herb, with lots of success stories. Good luck with getting your cycle back. :D

Thanks for that  I am thinking that is what I will do too...hmmm....but then again, if it isnt actually harmful to take while pregnant then I might as well keep taking it for the first 3 months...it says not to take it during pregnancy on the bottle though....will do more reading.

It's been 6 years since I took it, but from memory I read you shouldn't take it while pregnant. Don't quote me on that though.

I took it until I got a BFP and then stopped but my hormone levels then rose through the roof and resulted in m/c at 6 weeks. I've read the conflicting advice too and in my personal situation (eostrogen dominance - symptomatic) I think I'm going to keep taking it until 14 weeks then wean off through 2nd trimester (they all seem to agree not to take it in the 3rd).

But it's a call you have to make based on your own circumstances, I think :)

Hi:wave:

I have been going by the advice my Naturopath has been giving me. Between my family members and myself we have been seeing her over 3 yrs now about various issues. We have always found her helpful, reliable and current with her knowledge of natural meds.

My SIL took vitex, on advice from our Naturopath. My SIL had had numerous M/C in a short period. Within the first month she fell and is now 20 weeks! The advice was to take the vitex amount she prescribed (it was more than normal) until she found out she was pregnant. Then immediately lower the dose to the average 1000mg daily and take that through to 12 weeks.

My SIL had so many blood tests, they thought she was having twins due to the dramatic increase of levels each fortnight. It was incredible.

As for me, after a few cycles of tccing, i started vitex on the reccomendation from our Naturopath. Lowered the dose as mentioned above as soon as i found out. And no...the pregnancy i talk about is not related to Amali.

Hope that helps.

Mrs Little.

Thanks so much for the advice guys. I am now leaning towards taking it until 12 weeks and then weaning from there.

Fingers crossed it works for me!:)
