My poor little bubs has cradle cap and I rub sweet almond oil into it and then gently brush or wash her scalp. Problem is, she now has a pongy head! I tried using her nice smelling massage oil but that still made her head pong too!
anyone know how to reduce pong smell?

hey, I know where you are coming from. My son had cradle cap until he was 5-6 months old. And yeah, it used to smell, like smelly wet washing smell IYKWIM. I think it's the moisture that gets stuck in there with the oil.

I tried every thing, and the best (and least smelly) was baby sorbolene. It hasd no fragrance, but because it isn't an oil, it rinses right out, so doesn't seem to have the same pong. My SIL is a dr, and she said there is no real advantage to using oil, just messier and harder to rinse . Hope that helps.

i have just experienced this too, i now wash her hair with a baby shampoo every 3rd day,, too get rid of the smell, and then go back to the almond oil, i put a little lavender in it but it didnt change the smell , it is good to give the scalp a break ,wash it then let it dry out ,then brush out all the loose flakes for a bit before reaplying the oil.

You could try daktarin (sp?) it's an anti-fungal cream, used mainly for athlets foot. About $13 for a tube but gets rid of cradle cap pretty quickly.

I use equal parts of baking soda and water, then rub onto Olivers head. Leave 5 minutes or so, wash out with warm water, dry, and brush, and the next day....its all starting to flake off....by the day after the head usually looks pretty much clear, if not, repeat, and away you go.

No fuss, no smell, no oily stains on everything....!!

DS has really bad cradle cap but no pongy smell. A friend recommended the GAIA baby shampoo. Cradle cap was gone just after two washings.

I 2nd the Bi-carb / BAking soda paste.......I only heard about this recently and it's magic! REally works! Just make up a paste, put it on about 10 minutes before bathtime and wash off with a washer.......2 times and the cradle cap was gone! this has been my only incidence of CCap but a mother of 6 told me about it -so really must work for others too.......Cheap, easy, effective.....

Ariene has some mild cradle cap- I'll try the baking soda/water idea tommorow before her bath. It sounds great! Such versitile stuff, baking soda
