Ive found from reading a few of these threads that many of you mix your formula when the water is warm...I was wondering the reason for this because of all the tins of formula ive used it says in the instructions to mix the formula with cooled boiled water not warm...does it matter what temp the water is?

I dont think it matters what the temp is. When they say cooled boiled water I think they mean cool enough for bubs to drink.
I pre pour my bottles. So I wash & sterilise the bottles. Fill them with boiling water. Then just grab them when they are needed. If the water has become cold I zap it in the microwave for 20 secs.

Ok now I feel stupid...I looked more closely and realised it says the temp on there...aprox 37 degrees. lol. Oops.

I think the issue is more if you pre-make your bottles with warm or hot water, then put them in the fridge and re-warm them...that's meant to be a no no.:shame:

I only did it that way if I was out and about (I nuked my bottles before leaving home so I wouldn't have to hunt down a microwave). Otherwise I would mix it first, then nuke it.
As long as its not boiling, warm can be cooled boiled water.

Hi there :)
I mix the formula when the boiled water has cooled down to room temperature. My DS has gotten so ued to having his milk at this temperature I never have to warm it up. It just cuts down on the bottlefeeding steps. :)

I have always heated dd's bottle in the micro-wave with just the cool boiled for 30seconds then add the formula my aunty is a mid wife and told me that if you mixed the formula with hot or boiling water it kill the nutriants in the formula same as if you heat it made up in the micro wave the radiation in the micrwave kills the nutriants
I didn't think you were meant to zap water/formula in the microwave because it creates hot spots and can burn bubs throat? I'm using an electric bottle heater which I find good but those 4 minutes it takes at 3am can seem like a lifetime when DD is screaming for a feed!

That only happens if you don't shake it well afterwards.
i warm the water first.. bc i keep my pre poured bottles in the fridge..
i have found that if the formula goes in water that is too cool the formula doesnt seem to mix properly....plus my DS prefers his bottles on the warmer side..

On the Karicare tin is says 37 degrees celcius...that's generally someone's body temperature. I think the reason they say this, is so it's more like breastmilk... breastmilk is the temp of your body... I imagine that some babies are more inclined to switch from breast to bottle if it seems similar.
DD never cared about the temperature of her bottles though, so I just use room-temperature water (average room temp is about 24 degrees celcius). Sometimes when it's cold though, I warm it up a little. I'd put the water in, warm it up, THEN add formula and shake it.
I know there's a lot of warning about microwaves and bottles due to "hot spots"...but like angel kisses said, that's only if you don't shake it.
I never understood making up bottles (with formula) before you went out...I just took bottles with water in them, and then those little handy formula dispensers which I'd pre-measured. There was a warning on the formula tin saying not to pre-mix the bottles before you need them unless you could keep them cold...bacteria and such. (I also like my way because then DD could have a drink of water if need be).

This is exactly what I do. Milk dispensers are a gift from the heavens!!! I make the milk only when bub needs it and since all my sterilised bottles are already filled with cooled pre-boiled water, voila! It's so easy :)
