You'll probably find that this story is rubbish, for starters it was reported in the Sun, not something you can call a newspaper, it's a tabloid that would never let truth get in the way of a good story.
The Uk media has a habit of dredging up things like this and in turn putting pressure on the government which ends up with the shutting down of overseas adoption, what about all the families who have spent in excess of 2 years and thousands of pounds to reach the stage of going for overseas adoption through legitimate sources who then have the door slammed in their faces and have to start from square one again, waiting the same time and spending thousands more if they can afford it, giving up on their drem if they can't.
In the UK if someone wants to adopt from overseas they have to fund the background check and training program themselves, they then have to do all the ground work on finding an overseas agency and a local law firm who will do all the legal stuff for them. It all has to be authorised by the governments of both countries before it can go ahead, it is all legal and above board. 2 years ago the press decided to pick on Cambodia as a country where babies were being bought and sold, possibly it did happen but not by those people bringing babies to the UK, the checks are so in depth it could never have happened, yet the outrage caused by the media forced the government to shut down all adoptions from Cambodia. Some of the heartbroken families had already been given photos of their new baby, some had even already met them to do all the preliminary paper work and were due to return to collect them, they now have no idea where their children are, and lets face it for these families these were their children, they had names and faces.......... these are the people that really suffer by these so called media reporters digging into things and reporting half stories.
The buying and selling of children does happen, i have no doubt but if the adopting country has rigerous enough checks in place as the UK has and i'm sure Australia too then illegally obtained children cannot slip through the net, badly reported stories only serve to break hearts.

While i agree these stories are usually blown out of proportion, I also think it is quit likely that these illegal adoptions commonly occur in both UK and Australia.
Believing our supposedly strict guidelines protect people is playing ostrich, such 'rigorous checks' can only filter those who take that legal road!
When we have people who work within Transport forging licences that will pass any official check, it is no stretch of the imagination to consider the same could be done for Birth/Marriage/Death certificates, visa's, passports the list goes on.
I hardly think those capable of buying or abducting a child for profit would draw the line at bribing a greedy desk jockey.

Is the overseas adoption process something your family has first hand knowledge of? If so then your comment likening me to an ostrich is extremely hard to comprehend.
