Preg #1 - had NOTHING - no nausea, no tiredness, no cravings - absolutely nothing.

This time - OH MY GOD...

Since about wk3 (and before I even knew I was preg), I have had continuous gastro, where I cant keep anything (not even water) in my stomach for more than about 5 or maybe 10 minutes. I didn't even know gastro could be a M/S symptom :crying:

Apparently there is nothing I can take to stop this in the first trimester, so I am suffering through, only able to sip gastrolyte so my body can maybe hold some fluids. Other than that I eat, and hope that something at least will get absorbed.

I am now 10 wks or so, I have the odd day where its a bit better, but still have the gastro.

Has anyone else had this - PLEASE - did you find anything that helped? And how long did it last?

Hi there - I know you posted this last week and by hopefully the gastro has passed?? I had the same thing from about 4 - 6 weeks (when the nausea started) and then from about 8-12 weeks. It's a pain in the butt isn't it (pardon the pun) but there doesn't seem to be anything you can do about it except maybe identify foods that make it worse - I found that rich foods definately were more of an issue so ate a lot of toast and sandwhiches - still had diarrohea but not as bad. Maybe also try drinking some lemonade or something sweet just to keep your blood sugar up given that everything is pretty much coming out the other end straight away - I had no idea your system could be so efficient!! The good news is that it doesn't seem to effect the baby (same thing happened to me in first pregnancy) and it does seem to pass so hang in there!

Hi,

I'm 10 weeks tomorrow and I had gastro from 4 weeks & I didnt think it was due to me being pregnant. I didnt even know it was a pregnancy symptom.

I stayed away from curries, spicy also acid foods but that was only after I ate these foods due to cravings & then had a gastro attack. I too stuck to sandwiches/toast, just eat plain boring foods. That works for me.

Good luck!!

Thanks for some answers so I at least know I'm not the only one that has had this (and yep - didn't even know it could be a symptom of m/s)

Good news is it isn't every day now (almosy 15 weeks now, so thank goodness!) - maybe 2 or 3 days a week. But even water just goes straight through me on these days, so I am just trying my best to snack continually on these days and hope something stays in!

Doesn't help when the OB AND GPs say "gee, we've read about gastro as a m/s symptom, but your the first person we've actually met that has suffered with it like this...". So reassuring...and then followed up with "if you were vomiing, there are treatment options, but gastro - nothing, sorry"

YAH am so glad I am not the only one!!

I'm about 6 weeks and have pretty much had gastro for 2.5 weeks!! Everything I eat has gone straight through me and I have had the worst cramping...been driving me up the wall.

I never had this with my first pregnancy which was a boy so am hoping that all this means its a girl!!

Mind you I have ceoliacs disease so have really low iron and its at its lowest its ever been so am wondering if that is contributing....

Have started to feel a little better the last few days...found eating greasy junk food settled better than healthy meals with salads and veges.

Am just hoping that it passes and that my iron levels pick up.....
