Has anyone else found Stage 3 Avent teats (ie for use 3 months plus) flow WAY to fast?

My DD is almost 14 weeks old and we easily made the transition from Stage 1 Avent teats (0 months+) to Stage 2 teats (1 month +) when she was about 4 weeks old.

I have unsuccessfully tried twice to move her on to the Stage 3 teat - the first time at 12 weeks and again today - but the milk just seems to flow too fast and she gulps, gasps and loses lots of formula from the side of her mouth.

Feeding with the Stage 2 teats is a much cleaner and happier process, although it does take a little while for her to finish a bottle as she takes up to 210ml each feed.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Does it just mean I should wait and try again in another couple of weeks perhaps?

I've had exactly the same problem. Ds is 18weeks and I've tried twice since 12 weeks, he still won't take it. The last time gave him really bad indegestion so I won't be trying again. I did start using tommee tippee bottles for 3m+ and they flow quicker so he drinks faster, and he likes those ones. So he's combined fed on Avent no.2's and toppee tippee's. I usually use the Avents at night when I don't mind him taking his time.

I don't change over to 3+ until 6 months old roughly. When buns shows he's ready. They are way too fast. I didn't move onto 2's til 2 months, as bubs choked on one we accidently gave to him. At the time I didn't know what was going on til I looked! Poor little guy.

At 6 months we're still on 2's with no signs of moving to 3's.

We have only just gone over at 4 months. The nurse I see, said it doesn't matter too much if they don't progress through the teats. All that is important is how much they are eating, how long it takes and if they are putting on weight.

Don't rush it, they are medium flow, so bub needs to be ready and want the change.

My little girl is 10 months and still on the number 2 for 1 month +. they are much too
fast and she would drink a whole bottle, cry when finished cause she drank itso fast and still thought she was hungry and then later vomit cause she in fact drank too much

I have the same problem. We tried DD on the no.3 teats for a couple of days and found that she finished her bottles but then chucked them all back up. We also use a combo of avent no.2's and Pur/tommee tippee 3mth+ teats which seems to work.

Thanks for all your replies. We're back to using Avent 2 teats. But I noticed that a couple of you have mentioned using Tommee Tippee teats ... do these fit Avent sized bottles as well or do you use a combination of Avent bottles and teats and TT bottles and teats to feed your baby throughout the day? Does that cause any problems using different shaped teats? Also, do you know if the TT bottles fit an Avent steam steriliser (one of the on the bench, not microwave styles)? Sorry for so many questions!

No, tt teats don't fit on Avent bottles, I have both bottles and he latches on both. They also don't fit well in the Avent sterilisers because they're different shapes, but I used it anyway, I didn't buy a tt steriliser. I actually don't sterilise anymore so that makes life easier.
