This will be the first year that we'll be taking the kids to the Christmas Pageant with the whole kit and caboodle - rug, chairs, chalk, etc. and I was wondering what time we would need to get into town to secure a front row position.

Will be keeping an eye on the weather though, as there's no way we'll be heading out if it looks like being a stinking hot day. Have looked at the route and not much of it is in shade!!

KIng william street has the tall buildings that offer some shade. If i was going i would want to get there at least 1 hour before it starts. Maybe 2 hours if i had a rug and things.

I am not going this year as DS is scared of crowds and i think he wouldn't really appreciate it yet. Maybe next year.

I haven't been since I was a child. I'm too scared to fight the crowds with my two little ones so I'm going to wait until they are older.

I have heard that you have to get there quite a few hours before if you want to get up the front. Have you got someone who can go down earlier so that your kids won't get restless? It is also going to be very hot so I don't know if you want them out in this heat for too long.

Good luck and I hope you have fun.

We went last year with parents and we got on a 7am train was in there by 8am and because we wanted to get the kids in front and with in the hour of us being there so from 8am til 9am it got packed out pretty quick and we were glad we got there early because if we didnt the kids wouldnt have gotten front row because alot a adults took over the front row as it was we had to tell adult to move because our kids were on a rug right up front and adults came and stood right in front of them.

Was thinking of driving in when DS is awake, fed and dressed (7:00/7:30am) - taking a blanket and the chairs with me. DH would then catch a bus in with DD who wouldn't be able to sit around for that long.

I was out and about this morning at about the time the pageant would be over and it wasn't that hot. Will still keep my eye on the forecast.

Wow that is dedication. My ds is only 9 weeks old so won't be going for a while.
