Who's been to Mt Buller?

We're off there on holidays next month, and I have a few questions.

What is the road up there like? Is it treacherous, as in sheer drops at the side of the road? That sort of road scares the living daylights out of me.

Is there usually a long wait to get in the car gate for day-trippers? And is the day visitor car park far from the village? Just wanted to know if it will be feasible to leave things in the car and go back there during the day.

If I don't ski every day, is there anything else to do? Keeping in mind I will have littlies with me. What about surrounding towns, anything of interest to visit?

That was a fair few questions  :o Hope someone can help.

Thanks in advance

ok, lots questions to answer:
the road: its windy, but not that scary, most of the windy bits have rails etc
the wait depends what time you get there, earlier the better, get through by 9 - 9:30 and you should be alright, never been that bad when I've been though.

parking: the car park is a 5 minute bus (free) trip from the village. Buses are every 10 minutes or so. So you could go back to the car if you need to, but its a bit of a hassle.

other stuff to do: there's mansflied zoo about 10k's from mansfield that kids would love. mansfield zoo (http://www.mansfieldzoo.com.au/)
