At 16 weeks I can no longer lay on my left side, as soon as I turn on my left I get a severe stabbing pain in the heart. I am also having problems of when I sit for periods of time (I work in a call centre so it's all day) I get really bad pain towards the bottom of my rib on my left side as well. I went to the Dr today as I just haven't been feeling pregnant the last few days and with the pains I just wanted some reassurance. Basically he just fobbed what I had to say off, wrote me out an U/S referral and said if your that worried go for an ultra sound. Unfortunately my normal dr has moved and I can't get to him. I asked him if he had a doppler I thought at least if I could hear the heart beat I would feel better but apparently the practice does not have one made me so angry, Has anyone had any pains like this before
Yes, the whole way through my pregnancy. I had really bad heart burn that got progressively worse throughout. I ended up having to go on Zantec, but right at the end even drinking water was bad... I slept on my right side the whole time... Good news is as soon as I gave birth everything went back to normal

it doesnt feel like heart burn, when I've had heart burn before it was a burning sensation, this is so sharp like a knife
really bad heart burn can do that... If you are worried go and see another doctor and explain what is happening...

Get a second opinion but try not to stress too much until then. I know when I did my first aid course we got told to lay pregnant women on a certain side (not sure what side he said..great first aider aren't I? lol) because laying on your back, or the opposite side blocks one of your main arteries and then your heart has to work harder.

By the sounds of things ... I had a similiar thing happen to me - and still does every now and then - I am 32 weeks now and I am unsure when it first happened but I do remember the sharp stabbing pain in my chest stopping me in my tracks but with a little rest and a lot of deep breaths it subsided! Not sure why it happens! I also have a very heavy chest feeling and sometimes difficulty breathing when laying flat on back or on either side (they say you should lay on your left side) .... last night I finally got relief by propping myself up on a lot of pillows so I was almost in a sitting position and focussed on my breathing!
Pregnancy - so many complaints you DON'T know about!!!
Let us know what your Dr says tomorrow. Good luck and i hope it is nothing too serious and can be easily resolved for you.
take care. :hugs:

Well went to the dr and she seems to think that it's more an issue that I am quite big for being 16 weeks. she did a check of babies heart beat etc and checked me out and also put me on a ecg and it all seemed fine. She suggested I lay with a pillow under my belly if I want to lay on my left side to see how it helps. she also said for me to take some heart burn tabs just in case it is heart burn.
