help with nappy free time !

Hello everyone,

I desperately need tips on how to give my boy nappy free time. I am concerned with him getting cold & also weeing everywhere. Can anyone tell me how they do it? I would appreciate any help & would love to hear different ways.

Hi Kristy,

I use huggies change mats or even the cruisers one. I put that on the floor and then put a blanket or a terry cloth nappy square on top of it.

I live in Qld so it doesnt get that cold... but i do no nappy time in the afternoons on the loungeroom floor, its nice and warm there as the sun comes in.

What about a sunny spot inside on a folded towel. I think a little bit of sun through a window is okay for a bit.

Or even outside if it is not to windy or cold - just not the midday sun between 10 and 2pm. Put a hat on and let him go.

Be prepared to wash the towel but.....

We usually let Andrew wriggle naked on the floor for a little while before his bath time at night. That way, if he does make a bit of a mess, he is going straight into the bath! Plus, it puts him in a good mood and makes him more receptive to going to bed after his bath and feed. Generally we just plonk him on an old towel in the lounge room. He loves it!! I reckon he'd stay a nudie all day if we let him!! It must be lovely to not have the nappy on I reckon - more freedom of movement and all that!

Mind you, I have been peed on a few times! I'll be sitting on the couch watching tv or something and all of a sudden get a nice warm leg!!!! He's so funny - its likes he KNOW too...he always laughs at me! Funny boy...

Sometimes we let him go nappy free at my parents too - when he gets a bit narky and nothing will calm him down, stripping him down (at least from the waist down) does wonders for his mood! If you are worried about your bub getting cold, just keep something on his top half - generally when they are naked from the waist down they kick around a lot, so that should keep their bottom bits warm enough in the meantime!

I agree just pick the hottest part of the house at hottest time of day and strip him off. I found you could put a real nappy or towel under him but he would pee everywhere anyway - more work for me but he loves it. I too am in queensland and lately it has been warm enough around lunch for him to have a play naked in the back yard.

pump up the heating or find a sunny spot
Place lots of towels around or mats with the plastic underneath
even big picnic blankets with towels on top are a good idea
and let him enjoy his nudey time :)

If he does pee (which he probably will) its not such a problem as little boys pee is very "watered down" as such and is easy to clean up, especially on a tiled area or if you have floor boards !!

My boy is running around now but still loves his nudey time so he gets some before and after his shower and we always find little puddles somewhere !! luckily we have floor boards so its never a drama although he has got the rug a few times ! :p oh well !!

My little man is 10.5mths and loves his naked time...

I normally just have the heater turned up and let him crawl around for a while until i decide to pin him down and dress him!

When he was very little peeing was a bit of a problem but i dont think he has peed on the floor in a very long time!
