View Full Version : Muslin wraps - advice please?
Hi ladies
DS is 5mths old and still really needs to be wrapped but he's such a hot-bod when he sleeps and I think the cotton wraps need to be ditched and replaced with muslin.
I've never used them before but I hear they come in all sorts of sizes - any suggestions as to what size I should be looking for for Isaac? His cotton wraps are all sorts of sizes however they have stretch to them whereas I don't think muslin does?
I'm going to have a look online today and see what I can find as our shops only have the teeny tiny sizes.
Thanks!

HI as far as I know the muslin come in the same size at the cotton and I've seen them at big W and target. it should still stretch like cotton, if not better. I thought they only came in one size but I could be wrong.
If you get desperate I ended up using sarongs :) nice and cool in the summer and big enough for my baby who was a fair bit older and still like to be wrapped.

I have the smart wrap's/swaddles from target, their more like a rectangle than a square. The waffle wraps from target are awesome too, J is a freakishly hot bod & doesnt over heat in a waffle.
If you have a sewing machine, you can buy muslin material from spotlight and hem to the size you want.

We make our own wraps and they are fanastic. Even our houdini ant get out of them because they're so huge :)

Go 120x120, I've seen them on ebay that size.
Otherwise long rectangular shaped wraps are good in the heat. I use a waffle one on DD ATM and cause it's shorter her little feet can poke out, I figure it's like us being under the doona with a leg stcking out, cools me down:laughing:
Muslin does have some stretch to it too.

THat's what I was going to do but DD hates her arms wrapped now and I'm making the transition to a gro bag

Dont bother with any size less than 120x120cm. My DS is almost 5 months and still wrapped in muslin and anything smaller its hard to do up tight enough. The muslin wraps i have are not stretchy at all.

I'm handy with a sewing machine and could definitely whip up some hemmed wraps . . . if I had a sewing machine :(. It's on the Christmas list!! ;)

Thanks - I must have only ever seen crappy muslin wraps then because the ones I looked at had no stretch lol! Also I was thinking if it was square I could put it as a diamond shape and fold the top down a bit - that would make it a bit wider. Otherwise if it were a square I can always just fold the top down by 20cm or so.
Either way sounds like that's the size I'm after!
Thank you everyone, I'm going to have a search tonight for some sites. Poor little chicken was sweating so much today (it was 30 in Hobart today!) I'll see what I can find!
Hi, I use cotton cot sheets!!
