with dd#1 I stopped at 12mths but with DD#2 I stopped at 7mths as I put her bottles in the dishwasher.

I still use boiled kettle water to make up the bottles though - Bec is 11mths.

I have been told that you should continue to sterilise while ever you are still using formula

I wasnt sure

Im still using boiled water ...
and when I make up her bottles I only put water in them not formular ( I add that when warming them up)

& I dont 'sterilise' her food plates just wash them up well.

I just wanted to know when to stop with the bottles ...

I once heard that there's no need to steralise once your child is crawling around sucking up dirt off the floor, so about 8 - 10 months I guess.

And to contradict all of the above, professionals are now saying that washing in hot soapy water and then rinsing in very hot water is enough, or washing in the top part of the dishwasher.

I stopped at 12 months with DD1 (being a first time mum who did everything by the book  ), but stopped at 5 1/2 months with DD2, and just wash and rinse as per what Carlia said. I still give her boiled water though....

I stopped steralising at about 8months, as the other ladies said, once she was crawling around putting anything and everything in her mouth I didn't see the point!! We still use boiled water for her bottles.

When we were at the hospital we dropped her dummy. The nurse picked it up and washed it in warm soapy water, she said that that was enough!

I kept sterilizing for DD1 WELL over 12 months, I think it was around 14-16months. She has a comprimised immune system so I really did need to sterilze her things. I am still sterilizing for DD2 who is 4 months and I will do so until she is 12 or so months. I know they pick up alot of germs off the floor when they start crawling etc, but I would rather a few less bugs in their system.

I am planning to continue to sterilise and boil the water until DD is at least 12 months old. I bought an Avent IQ Electric Steriliser which is so handy and easy to use. They cost a small fortune so by God am I going to get my monies worth with it!!

We been advised by midwives here at St John of God that not necessary to sterilise, they advise washing in cold water then hot soapy water then rinse in hot and leave to air dry before storing in dry place. Apparantly microwave sterlisers dont do any better than the washing method so are pretty much a waste of time. I stopped sterlising at 3mths after hearing this and DS now 18mth is fit and healthy and I wont sterilise with the next baby except when I get all the bottles out of the cupboard to use for the first time!
