My poor little 11 week old DD has since birth had the awful, sticky eyes.

I've consistently been bathing them as advised but they never seem to get better. I've mentioned this both to my OB and GP around the 6 week mark and they just said it should get better in time - my OB advising it can take up to 6 months!

I have read that it is possible to treat with antibiotics or ointment. Although I'm not sure if this is just a temporary fix until the tear duct decides to unblock naturally.

I am now bathing her eyes several times a day to clear away the muck - and her poor little eyes are starting to get a bit rid and irritated on the ends from all this wiping.

Do you think I should revisit a GP for some treatment or should I just keep trying to be patient with it?

Thanks :)

I second the breastmilk...it's also great for the little scratches babies tend to get from their fingernails.

I used BM successfully... but eventually had to use antibiotics

Thanks guys.....and sorry I should have mentioned that I am no longer BF'ing (insert lots of sadness here for me  ).....I did read that this would help but unfortunately is not an option for a now FF mum.

Only a little bit so far.....the book "Baby Love" concluded that this doesn't make much difference.

But I may as well give it a bit more of a go seeing that the bathing isn't getting us anywhere.

Great - thanks for that. I'll go chat to my pharmacist about it.
