I have purchased one of these second hand and am just wondering how other people found it for their newborn??

I am also after some linen for it, but not sure what to get?? What did you use?? The mattress is not your standard size for bassinets - its 300x900mm. Would a blanket wrapped around it be sufficient or something??

Thanks so much :D

Can't be any help about the actual hammock sorry, but if you google amby baby hammocks, it will bring up a seller on ebay who makes sheet sets to fit the hammock.

I have purchased sheet sets from this seller to fit my Boori rocking cradle, and can vouch for them! :)

I bought a couple of sets of fitted bassinette sheets. They were a little bit big but once bub was in it, the middle pulled a bit but didn't come loose or look too tight.

DS2 loved it, btw. Wish I'd had it for DS1. They get quite warm snuggled up in there so you won't need a lot of bedding either.

Thanks BazzasMum.

Just wondering too, has anyone heard about these hammocks being a SID's threat???? A midwife friend of mine suggested to me not to use it for this reason.

I had the Sleep softly Hammock (you can see it on ebay) for DS2, and TBH after the first few weeks he really didn't like it at all!!

He was a terrible sleeper for the first 6wks (well what am I saying- he still is!) and I thought this would help- but he just seemed squished in it, and couldn't move his head freely enough. I was SO disappointed, as I loved the concept, and was convinced it was going to give me a happy little sleeper! :p

For the first little while when all they do is sleep it was good, and when he was hard to settle it worked really well cause I could rock/bounce the hammock, rather than having to rock him- but he wouldn't sleep long times in it. He turned out to be a side sleeper, so i think that the fact he was stuck on his back was a big problem.

Oh and with regards to the sheets- I didn't use any! :o I wrapped DS, and lay a blanket over him if I needed too....but didn't use anything under him- the mattress is completely washable.

I did have a MCHN mention to me that she couldn't advocate it (she had never seen it before) because it didn't fit with the SIDS guidelines, but that was kinda her way of saying 'well it looks good, but I have to cover my butt'!! :D

I can see how some hammocks could be a SID's threat, I personally know of family who werent comfortable with the "sinking in" so they flatten out the bottom of the hammock and put the mattress on top. However ive never found a problem with my amby. I was given one with my first daughter, but thought it was a gimmick so i never set it up until she was 5 months old PS she instantly fell asleep! SO i gave that one away and brought a brand new one when DD2 came along was a nice peaceful few months. Now im using it for DS in the bedroom and elec swing in his room. Cant be all that bad if many hospitals are using them in their special care wards :)

We brought the amby for our DS and have found it to be great. He is 12 weeks now and can self settle himself in it. I brought the sheets from amby in queensland, you may need to put more elastic on them as they can come loose a little.

I don't think there is any recommendation about them in regards to sids as there is not enough information about them. No where does it say on the sids website that they are unsafe or safe. Like mini_me said they can't be that unsafe if child care centres and hospitals around the world are using them.

ENJOY :)

Cool thank you ladies

I think I will definately give it a go. The lady I bought it off couldn't stop raving about it (it was 2nd hand and she bought it when her son was 2 wks old). She used it day and night till her son was 6 months and started rolling in it.

I am hoping it will be good! :fingerscrossed:

Hi, I don't want to scare anyone if there is no risk but thought I would share some research I was just doing tonight. There are a few forums discussing risks associated with the amby following an alleged death of a 5 month old boy in the US in August and other recent deaths, supposedly from suffocation. If you do a google search you will easily find the forums (I didn't keep a note of them).

The father of the boy has also spoken about this on a forum. He says that he reported it to the relevant body over there, they investigated and when they finished their investigation the US website closed etc. It is true that the US website appears to no longer exist (try the link from the Aust site too). A couple of people say they have tried to get answers from the company in Aust, US and UK and from relevant bodies but don't report anything yet.

Some people on these forums are saying they can be difficult to get level and elevated at the head, so the baby can end up on the side or face into the wall.

I was about to try to get a 2nd hand amby baby on ebay (perfect condition). Now I won't, but am disappointed because I was really excited about getting one for out baby due in Jan.

I don't like to spread information that may not be correct, but this is the discussion going on at the moment, and at least one person claims that the amby is responsible for his baby's death. There are enough questions in my mind (including because the US website is down) that I thought I would raise it here as something that others may wish to look into and follow.

I am sure that in many cases it works very safely, and it sounds like a beautiful option when it works correctly.

Anyway, please don't be upset with me for passing on information that I can't verify. As I say, I don't know what's what about this, but i thought it is something that others might wish to look into as well.
