View Full Version : Rasberry Leaf tablets - side effects
I started taking rasberry leaf tablets last week in the hope it will do all the wonderful things people say it will :fingerscrossed:
But I've noticed since then I've been getting really run down, having aches/pains all over and feeling quite light-headed. I'm not sure that I'm getting the flu (again), it's normal pregnancy symptoms or maybe the tablets.
Anyone know of/or have symptoms from these tablets?

Hi Jodi. I didn't take the tablets, but I did drink six cups of raspberry leaf tea a day for two days (I went into labour on the third day so I was able to stop drinking it!). I didn't notice any of those symptoms, but perhaps the tea just isn't as strong. Are you taking the tabs to induce labour? That's why I started on the tea, but I see you are due in Sept, so I presume you don't want bubs to arrive just yet!
I've got the tablets at home too and I've been meaning to take them, but want to check with my OB first, because I've heard they bring on labour - like hazel said! But maybe that's just the tea? Because the tablets say to take them in the third trimester as it 'helps aid' labour etc. etc., which you would think would be OK.

Raspberry leaf will NOT bring on labour. It is a uterine tonic and will help tone the muscles you will use to give birth. You can have tea from about 14 weeks safely.
Jodi how many tablets a day are you taking?

Damn! Maybe that's why I went past my due date.... I drank all that awful tea for nothing (stupid me thought it would actually taste like raspberry!):o

Yeah bummer on the taste. Have you tried adding honey to it? I actually don't mind it then.
I've been taking 2 tablets 3 times a day (so 6 in total) which is what the bottle says and what the lady at the pharmacy also recommended. On birth.com.au they had a report on some studies on rasberry leaf tea. But it didn't mention about side effects. This report says you can take it from around 32 weeks. I'm not taking it bring on labour, mainly to tone the muscles (as carlia said)
your only suppost to take 2 tabs a day studies have shown that drinking tea or taking tabs can help with contraction during birth and after :fingerscrossed: also can assit in cervical dialation which didnt happen to my girlfreind when she gave birth
Its two tablets taken three times a day, which is six tablets depending on the grams of the tablets of course. I can't remember the website but it was a study done at Westmead hospital.

i didn't have any side effects from the RL
I took RL tablets with both pregnancies and will be with this one!
Last 2 my labours were only 3hrs, it does not cause labour it just prepares the muscles for labour for you to be able to dialte quickly, with my last one i went from 2cm - 10 cm's in 20 minutes!!

I took the tablets and had no side effects whatsoever. I really have no idea if it made the birth any easier.
I think I might keep going with taking it and see how I go. It might just be a case of the flu, or just being run down. :fingerscrossed:
thanks for the advice ladies

oh im getting some:D :D
I don't know if this will help. But i give raspberry leaf to my pugs when they are pregnant to help them during the pregnancy process. I know you're a person and a pug is a dog but i have never seen any terrible side affects.
