View Full Version : Sore Groin/Inner Thigh muscles

The last few weeks my Groin/Inner Thigh muscles have been REALLY sore. After resting for a period of time, I'm finding it hard to walk (normally anyway :p) and even rolling over in bed or lifting my legs pulls these muscles.
Does anyone else have this or know how to treat it? I've tried different stretches but none of them reach the muscles that are sore.
Also, I was in a car accident 3weeks ago, could this be related?
I've had groin pain also, but not inner thigh pain. Same - after sitting down for periods of time and when you get up to walk it's a bit hard to move, and in bed too. My OB said it was normal, especially since my bub's head is very low down (2 pushes and he'll be out apparently...woohoo! haha!), and that most of these pains are ligaments stretching etc.
Having said that, I haven't been in a car accident - maybe just get it checked out anyway? Just to be on the safe side and to ease your concerns? How big was the accident?

I was hit from behind & pushed into the car in front. My car was written-off by the insurance company but my doc said I only had whiplash, which I have been getting physio for.
I have my hospital booking appt on Sat & 20wk U/S next Mon, then my next OB appt won't be for a week after that. Should I see someone in the mean time?

HI, I got that too, as far as i know totally normal, for me it did go away but probably not for about a month  I dont think there is too much you can do just take it as a sign as you're nearing closer to the end and to take it a bit easier. You could try swimming just to take the weight off... that can feel pretty amazing :)

I got that too and sometimes I could barley walk. The groin pain was really sore. My OB said it was normal and physio does help a little. Hope it gets better for you soon hun.

Hi There,
It would be a good idea to get it checked out by an obstetric physio - it may be some pelvic instability.
Check out the website www.pelvicinstability.org.au for more information.

Hi all,
I was just about to post a thread about the same thing or something similar anyway. I get a dragging or pulling pain sort of where the top of my inner thigh meets my pubic bone/pelvis. Maybe you'd describe it as a muscle ache? It's really annoying and I find I waddle to make the pain more managable. This is my second baby and my pelvic floor muscles are in pretty bad shape from first birth. Have been doing pelvic floor excercises hoping this will help. Does anyone know if it's related to pelvic floor issues? It's driving me mad. I'm trying to pack to move house and find I have to keep sitting down. We currently live on the 3rd floor of an apartment building and walking up and down the stairs carrying my 16 month old daughter makes it worse too.
Any excercise suggestions or is it just a case of waiting for pregnancy to be over? I'm 28 weeks now.

Yup totally normal. I didnt experience it until i was pregnant with DD but i was walking cow legged from morning till 3pm
This pregnancy ive already bought my body pillow and will be using it when the pain begins again, hopefully that will help. All i can suggest is just keep walkin around the house as much as your body can take it, that will help. but of course if its to unbearable have a rest with your body elevated :D

Yes it can be related to pelvic floor - certainly strengthening your pelvic floor is something an obstetric physio would recommend - these muscles help stabilise your pelvis, especially if the joints are a little unstable from your pregnancy. You should definitely see a physio - preferably an obstetric or women's health physio (ask your hospital) as they may well be able to help you feel better and prevent your symptoms getting any worse.
Good Luck,
Kate
PS They will probably tell you to stop carrying your 16 month old up and down the stairs!

Hi there ...
Hooooooooo yeah ... it hurts !!!
The pain started at 15 weeks and still happening at 23 ... It started badly in the groin . I could not put my underwear as it was really hard to lift up my legs . This pain is gone now but I have LOTS of stretching in my abdo muscles. I feel it at night .. I "drag " my tommy with me !!!
I found that having a pillow under my legs help me a lot as it reliefs the pressure on my muscles ...
Hope that helps ...
Take care.
