Parental leave

Hi I am new to this and would like some info. My partner is planing on taking up to 6 months unpaid parental leave then returning to work. I am eligable to 18 weeks paid parental leave from my employer can I take this 6 months after the baby is born when my partner returns to work?

I think this is something you need to discuss with your employer, or check the fine print of your employment contract. Terms and conditions like that can vary a lot from one company to the next.

Make sure you check out your entitlements under the government's scheme, too - it doesn't come into force until 2011, but certainly worth being aware of.

HI there, by the sounds of it you could, I think the only restriction is that both of you can't take paternity leave at the same time?
