View Full Version : af advice please...go to dr?....sorry if TMI
Hi, please forgive me for posting about this topic, I am a bit worried and looking for some advice, and don't feel comfortable ringing my IRL friends about this....
OK....got AF yesterday as normal.....this afternoon I have gone through 5 tampons, 5 pads and had to change underwear and clothes a couple of times too. This is alot heavier than my AF has ever been before. Do you think I should go up to my local hospital or do you think it is nothing to worry about? My kids are asleep and DH doesn't get home from work for another two hours.
Sorry for giving TMI....I am just a bit worried and looking for advice, or if this has happened to anyone else.....Thanks
That sounds excessive. I would phone your nurse on call service if you have one in your state, if not, I'd phone the hospital and ask what they recommend.
If you are loosing that much, IMO, it's not worth the risk driving, if you can't get someone to take you up, then please catch a taxi or call an ambulance to take you up.
It does sound quite excessive and worrying, if you start to get lightheaded etc i would go to the hospy. I had excessive bleeding like that but it was after a termination and the hospital left me there for 3 hours and didn't care to check on me even though i had gone through a number of pads and clothes, i passed out as soon as the doc saw me i had lost that much blood, was awful. I hope you are ok and find out whats causing it.

I would absolutely get thee to a doc... is there an on-call one in your area? Keep your fluids up, and if you don't have another adult in the house, get on the phone to a friend or family member in the meantime so if you do get to a point where you may pass out someone at least will know to get there asap for your littlies.
Don't panic but I think you need to call the nurse on call line and get some advice. As you said, this is unusual for you and I think it's better to be safe than sorry. Is there any chance at all you were pregnant?
I agree with PP's Nurse on Call or similar is a great service & you should give them a call.
Thanks for the replies everyone.
I rang the nurse on call service and they were really good, asked heaps of questions and were nice, which was good because I was a bit nervous and embarassed. She said that I need to see a dr within 4hrs. I am waiting for my DH to get home, he will be home in about 45mins, and will head up to my local hospital then.
Thanks again your replies... have really helped me out tonight....I know we have our days on the hub but it really is a supportive community when you ned it the most!

CJA- I hope you made it to the hospital and are ok, I assume you're being kept in for observation as I've known a couple of friends who went through something similar with AF and they were kept in for observation, pretty sure nothing turned up, they just had to take it easy the next few days.
moozle-I'd assume cja went to the hospital last night as she hasn't been OL since her last post.

Hope she is doing okay and resting up.
Hi,
I went to my local hospital last night and saw the nurse on call.....she checked I wasn't pregnant, took my blood pressure, asked a few questions...rang the Dr on call who said over the phone that I sounded fine and to come back if I started to feel unwell or if it things suddenly got alot heavier.....they made me a Dr appt for next Wednesday afternoon....so I came home made a coffee and watched a DVD with DH....so sorry I didn't come back online...I feel bad that you lovely ladies were worried about me....Thank you so much for your advice and care....xx
