hi I was just wondering if it is ok to use a specially fomulated eucalyptus oil for vaporisers for a 10 month old bubs. My DS has a terrible cold and cough and the vaporiser seems to be helping him but i dont know if i should be using the oil at his age. The pharmasist said it was ok but my MIL said she heard it was bad. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi

DS is 9 months and DH bough the vicks steam vapour for the vapouriser for him just today. The lady at the chemist said it was the best, and to steer clear or the ones with camphor in them, as it can make them stop breathing.

Oh they recommended watering it down too

Pure essential eucalyptus oil is safe, provided you don't use too much. In my vapouriser, I just fill the compartment with water and add oils to that. You don't need anything that is specially formulated for a vapuoriser. 2 drops is ample. You will need to replenish every 5 hours or so (wether your vapouriser is on or not) as the oils evapourate. You could also add a couple of drops of lavender oil - will help him relax and sleep. Good luck!

I really don't use anything with the vaporiser any more but find the steam alone is good enough (Also a friend of mine has found yellow streaks on the wall after using the eucalyptus in her vaporiser).
