I bought an advent manual pump and it is shyte, I can't get anything out with it, it doesn't seem to attach on properly. I've had big success with an electric pump in the past so I want to get one (off ebay)
I thought maybe it is my giant boobs making the manual pump not work properly, so can anyone with large breasts tell me a pump that has worked for them? I don't want to get burnt again.

Ahhhh so it isn't just me then I thought I must be doing something wrong I tried an Avent manual breast pump that I was given and it wouldn't work for me either I found it easier to do it by hand.Hope you find one that works...

secretsquirrel - I've heard quite a few people say that the advent one does nothing for me, despite on the box saying that 'clinical trials prove it as effective as hospital pumps' whateverrr
thanks for that mummabec

I'm surprised you had issues with the Advent Isis. I had F cups when I was expressing with DS and it worked fantastic, I was pumping a full bottle in about 15 minutes... then again, I always had a lot of milk.

Well it's not doing anything at *all* - and there is loads of milk there, DD is only 3 weeks and I'm feeding the 15 mth old too so they are up like melons sometimes. Do you think I am doing something wrong? It is not getting any seal at all around the boob, I mean it is just pumping air and putting no suction on my nipple at all.

I have limited experience with pumping, I only did it for just over a month with DS. But you should feel the suction when you depress the handle. Not to the point of hurting, but a firm feeling. Are you getting that? (opps, I just read your post and you are saying it isn't)
My friend gave me her isis bc she said she couldn't get much out, so maybe some women's breasts or mammary system (I can't think of the right terminology ) aren't suited to manual pumps
I found the suction didn't really 'grip' until several pumps. Sorry I probably haven't been real helpful...

Well I just gave it another go, absolutely nothing. Easily comes out using my hands but the advent is doing nothing for me. I guess I will press on to the electric (which I used with DD and got a terribile over supply problem, it's one extreme or another!)

I have this pump and giant boobies. I will usually just express the nipple a little first by hand to soften it, then stick it in pump :) occassionally it takes few pumps but generally its when they're very engorged. You also need to stimulate let down, i often hand express the free nipple which will trigger it.

Medela. The shields are only designed to cover big nipples, not the whole breast. Medela is the best electric you can get. It is what is used in most hospitals.
:iagree: I got a medela swing. I have about an e-f cup at the moment. Obviously I don't have any milk yet as baby isn't born, but when I got it, I stuck it on and switched it on to see how comfortable it was. :o It got a great seal around my breast and was pumping away like mad. I'm sure if I had milk it would have worked.

Same here. I've had to express fulltime for a week now and bought an Avent Isis cause my medela one (was an old one) was awful. It used to take me 40 mins to get 10mls, but the Avent is wonderful and I get around 125mls in 10-15mins.
I found that with the pad on it can take a while for the suction to 'feel' right and a few times I've thought it wasn't on properly only to start letting down when I took the pump away.
I have also found if I'm really engorged it can be hard to get a seal and sometimes I need to reposition the pump at a different angle.
Other than that I love it! I found the instructions where it recommends to do 6-8 'quick' pumps then wait 2 secs etc good too as had no idea about that before.
I have F cups too.
