Hi everyone!!

Well after a long time thinking and talking about deciding whether to have a baby, DH and I have decided to TTC in 3 months time!! :D There is a reason for 3 months and thats coz my DH has been on meds that cause birth defects :( Hes now off them but its not safe for us to TTC until at least 3 months after he stopped taking the meds.

Anyways DH is now on different meds, these are safe for baby but MAY cause low sperm count!!! :hissy:

So I have some questions. Is there anything DH can take to improve the quality or quantity of sperm? What about me, should I take any suppliments to help fertility? (other than folic acid) Is there anything else I can do to help us get pregnant? Were both pretty healthy, of average weight and eat well (im vegetarian and eat very minimal junk food)
Also I have VERY light periods (2 or 3 days) Will this affect my chance of conceiving? I dont know when I ovulate, I think im going to have to rely on an OPK.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to your suggestions and comments :)

Hi Babydreamz!

My doctor told me that taking 5mcg of folic acid was enough and I didn't need to take any other supplements. However, I was already taking a multi vitamin (which contains enough folic acid) so I am continuing with that. I know a lot of the ladies on here are taking some form of pre-natal vitamins (Blackmores, Elevit etc).

Also there is a mens version-Menevit, which your DH could take to support healthy sperm.

Not sure about the light periods. I have just started using OPKs and temping, so I am new to this side of TTC.

Everyone on here is very friendly and helpful, so I am sure you will feel welcome. :) Come drop into the TTC 1# thread when you're ready..the more the merrier!

I agree with Summa with the Vitamins but you could also take Zinc, it helps with sperm count...the other thing is you can always see a natropath and they might be able to help as well.

Good luck, the ladies on here are great and we give lots of love and support.

Thanks for the advice, I will be adding those things to my shopping list this week :) I am taking multi vitimins too, so im not sure i need any extra folic acid either, but i will check how much my multi vitimins contain.

I will definately join the TTC thread when its the right time for me!!! :)

Good luck with TTC ladies!! :fingerscrossed:

My DH takes Menevit and also Vitamin C tablets, as they can do with more vit c than whats in the multi vitamins!

Also he is now taking chinese herb tablets as well. He just had a quick check when I was in my TCM consulation.

As for yourself, I'd reccomend Fefol pregnancy vitamins!

Treasurehim, do you recommend that vitamin over the blackmores one and where do you purchase it?

I do, because it has all of the things you need and its cheaper. And only 1 tablet a day still.
My sis who is preg, was also reccomended it by her doc. It's called Fefol Multi-Preg.

I get the menevit and the fefol from Chemist warehouse.

I agree with all the other ladies.
I'd be getting your DH straight onto Menevit... it takes at least three months to get good sperms, so by the time you do start TTC, you'll both be ready.
Just wanted to tell you not to take any extra folate... I saw a news article that said taking too much folic acid can cause asthma in kids, so you should only take what is in the pregnancy multi-vitamins as this is the recommended daily dose.

You won't really know if light periods are a problem until you start TTC. Also, the best way to know when you are ovulating, is not just by using OPKs, but by monitoring your body in two important ways: body temperature and cervical mucus. Make google your friend, or get to know websites like Fertility Friend, and you will then really get to know your body better than you ever have before.

Bluntly..... you need to stick your finger up there and feel around!

It will take a couple of cycles to notice the differences.....
Just do it in the shower each night.

Do some research online for what you are feeling for. And while you are 'in' there, see what your cervical mucus is like too.
