Hi All,
Im writing from Ireland as Im really interested in the laundry service that i've read about in Australia. We don't have anything that comes even remotely close here and it really is a pity. My daughter is 8 months old & I've been using disposables all along as there seemed to be so many reasons why I couldn't use cloth ones. I was hoping to pick some brains about the service to see about setting something up here between some mothers. As the (dreaded word) recession seems to be an ongoing feature in all our lives lately, I think some of us could really do with saving a few Euros on the nappies. I would love to know how the whole system works and how much it costs.
I really appreciate ANY feedback or help, and value your time. :)

What sort of cloth nappies are you looking at setting up for? As in terry flats or modern cloth nappies?

The laundries that I think you'll find most people are talking about in Aus launder the terry flats as fabrics in MCNs might not be able to handle the contstant high temperature washes that health regulations require.

Someone will correct me though if they have come across a MCN laundry.

Never thought of that, but would have prefererred to use the ones with fastners etc. trying to make the whole cloth nappy experience as hassle free as possible for us 1st timers. Honestly, none of my friends (in the age 30 bracket) use cloth. It's crazy really how much money we're wasting & how un-eco friendly we're being!
Is there different types of cloth "flat" nappies? & Do you use a liner with them?

Terry flats are terry towelling squares that you fold yourself.

You'd probably need to research the health regulations as to washing first ... then look at all the different nappy types available to you over there and see which ones could handle those washing conditions.

MCN's are really easy to wash yourself ... scrape the solids into the toilet and throw the entire nappy into a dry nappy bucket with a lid. No soaking etc.

When you wash you use a very small amount of washing liquid/powder or soapnuts and I just throw an extra rinse cycle onto the machine to ensure all soap reside it out of the nappies. Then you hang out to dry ... which is very easy for me here in a hot climate ... as long as they get filtered light the sun will do all the work to kill any nasties.

Much easier than the old terry towelling squares!
