View Full Version : Tests to check hormones levels etc
Just wondering if anyone has had a blood test to see if their hormones are all normal. I seem to have a 13-20 lutal phase and I am thinking of getting some tests just to make sure I do not have any inbalances that could be easily fixed. I am not sure if this should be the next step or whether to try a Chinese herbalist first. Any advice would be great.
Hi Livy, Yes two cycles ago I was two weeks late and when my Dr sent me for a pg BT he also tested my hormone levels. Apparrently I didn't 'o' that month, My leutal phase is 15 - 16 days. I am taking Maca now as it is said to balance your hormone levels and help with fertility. I only heard of it through bubhub. It can't hurt to have a BT done for your hormones, your Normal Dr can do it. It will help to what is happening and give you some peace of mind. As for the herbs I'm not sure I've only just started like I said. I hope everything goes well for you.:hugs:
Hi firefly. Were you temping at all? Just wondering if you still got a temp rise but didn't ovulate? I have tried Macca but is seemed to make me really sick - I had bad tummy pains and vomiting which stopped as soon as I stopped taking it.
Thanks for your help :)
No unfortunately I hadn't started temping then. I only started temping last month. I only found Bubhub when I was two weeks late cause I was looking for answers my self.
Livy - maybe ask for a CD21 bloody test (usually done 7 days after you O) so that you can check to see if your hormones are normal and that you are actually O'ing. A good place to start. Good luck.

Fancy bumping into you here Liv. I had all my bloodtests at Day 21 too. Covered everything from progesterone levels to see if I had ovulated to checking that iron levels etc were all ok. Thankfully, they were...but where is my baby:banghead:
I had blood tests done for suspected PCOS as after coming off the BCP i had 4 months of no cycles, nothing. I am seeing a naturopath (2 actually lol) and having acupuncture/chinese herbal medicine.
I would say have the blood tests and if you want to take that information to your natural therapist as it will also help them in their treatment.

Livy - if you are worried I would get the tests done. I had loads of blood taken last year for all sorts of tests and the imbalance in my hormones, abnormal blood sugar etc indicated PCOS. (Followed up with Ultra sound etc....)
This info is GOLD!!!! You can take the results with you to a Specialist or to a Naturopath. They both would find it valuable in deciding how to treat you. Your choice.
In choosing which path to take, (this has been my experience ) but Natural Medicine seems to treat your whole body and try to create a balance in your body again, whereas Specialists will target the specific problem. Most people find that it takes longer to go down the Natural path (but you are taking a wholistic approach) whereas you may find faster results with a Specialist. It depends what you want.
I started with the Naturopath (for 4 months) and could see it was going to be a slow and steady improvement. But I was very, very, impatient and so moved on to see a Specialist, who's only focus was stimulating my ovaries to produce eggs.
Good luck with your choice.
Thanks everyone - you have all been really helpful - I am slowly getting over my BFN disappointment again :) I really hope we all get our turn at a BFP very soon  I might have the blood test and then maybe see a herbalist - might have to talk dh in to getting a test too ... he he.
