Hi mums, I realise there are probably threads dealing with this but I wanted to run this problem by you wise women. Spencer is 6 and a half months old and due to various factors (such as travel and sickness) is not a great sleeper at night. He goes down at 6.30pm and then wakes at 11pm for a feed. He goes back to sleep okay but then wakes at 2am and is unsettled from then onwards. I'd really like to establish a routine of feeding him at 11pm and 4am. How can I get him out of the habit of waking at 2am? I'm not feeding him at this time. I just put the dummy in and pat him. He dozes for a while and then wakes. This can go on for an hour to an hour and a half. He doesn't cry during this time - just whinges and cries out. Thanks.

Hi,

Night waking is exhausting! Our baby has also just started waking up at night and I can empathise with how tiring it is day after day. Prior to that she was sleeping through and here are some things that worked well for us - we realised that it was a hunger issue as she kept waking despite resettling so we read ( and read and read) and decided to increase her feeds in volume and slightly shorten the time between feeds and we also gave her a dream feed around 10ish to help her see through the night. A book I found helpful was the Second Baby Whisperer book for babies which has lots of detailed chapters regarding sleeping problems including day and night sleep. Of course no book is completely the answer and what works for one baby may not for another etc but it was helpful in starting us off on the right track.

Hope some of this is useful

Thanks, Bronte's mum. I'll look up the book.
