View Full Version : Any other Country Mums / Dads ?
We're lucky enough to live about 4hrs (min) east of the ocean here, which means that we're a minority group here (unless you talk to our locals who assure each other that "bush" people are the "real" Australians!).
Temora is pop. of about 4 000 and an hour north of Wagga. I don't know everyone in the town but can't go to Woollies without meeting several people I "have" to talk to:D - it drives hubby crazy ! Funnily enough, as a Canberra boy himself, he also seems to like the country now and wouldn't go back. I think the sport opportunities alone do it for him!
I like living in the country, though. It's a great place to raise kids. Just wondering if there are any other bubhub Mums and Dads who come from "isolated" areas like us ? What do you like / dislike about your area?

I am about to move to one that doesnt have a massive population. I cant wait!
Hi we're in a smallish town 3 hours west of Brisbane. I grew up in the city so even though we have a population of around 7000 this is a tiny place for me!
We've been here for nearly a year and while I enjoy the life style I still have moments of home sickness, going through one at the moment actually:gloomy:, so even though we have quite a bit here, I still miss the convenience of where we used to live.
Hey Mrsd, welcome.
I live on a sheep station, about one and a half hours from a shop.
I love Bubhub as it makes me feel very un-isolated. I had a nurse drive out last week for a health check on Hugh. She asked me if I felt isolated and I said no because of my great friends and the great advice I get from Bubhub!

Hi:wave:
I'm in a little wheatbelt town of about 600 people.
I not originally a country girl (married a farmer) but I could never live anywhere else!
I love the sense of community and freindship and the fact that kids can still run free.
Welcome to Bub Hub! I look forward to chatting more
P.S I'm glad you and little Hugh are doing so well Karen:hugs:
our town is the post office, a pub and a shop!! 27 houses and 6 streets!!
some small towns can be too small!!
it ok though, im always lived in small towns just not quiet this small!!
some times it does want to make you bang your head against the wall!!:banghead:

Sorry to hear you've been homesick, Sarie. A year's not very long to accustom yourself to a new town and make friends etc. I hope things get better for you.
Thanks Mrsd. I'm pregnant as well so my hormones are racing at the moment, I get teary over the slightest thing and when my parents came to visit last weekend I realised how much I really miss them.
But I have found two great friends here in town and another who lives not that far away (thanks to bubhub!) so at least I do have some support here. I wouldn't be able to cope if I didn't!
I'm sure I'll pick up soon, I've organised a weekend back to Brisbane so I'm sure that's all I need to feel much better!

Hey all,
I live in a town with a population of about 2200 people, on the NSW/VIC border, the only thing I dont like is having to drive about 1 hour to get to some really decent shops!

I live in a town with a population of 3000. We have to travel for basic stuff like food, petrol and to see a dr, but you get that huh??
I love it here, I hate cities....actually, I detest them. I hate noisy, crowded places with tons of traffic. I like sleepy areas. I just wish the people here were nicer.

hello and welcome to bubhub  .
i live in the city but we are considering a move to the country in a few years.
Thanx, everyone, for your welcomes. It's great to see that we country mums can keep up our IT skills with the best of them !
I think that this site could be a real life-line for so many isolated mums and while I know that it's just as isolating in a city where you don't know anyone, living on a farm (we don't - we live in town) must be just about as physically isolating as you could get sometimes !
Go the bush !
