OK, 3mth old DD has been put on formula for a week since I developed Bell's Palsy and had to start prednisone straight away. Before this she was entirely BF but due to having to start meds ASAP for a quicker recovery I couldn't wean her 'onto' the formula, had to start expressing and dumping to keep up a supply and by Fri she should be able to go back on the breast as I can stop meds Thurs.
So anyway, when BF she pooed allll the time...like 6-8times a day, minimum. Lots of it. Since she's been on the formula she has gone up to 2 days without it and when she does poo it's still quite runny, no bulk to it at all (sorry TMI), more like brown water I suppose. She doesn't seem bothered by it and actually fusses less than she did BF... but I'm wondering if this is normal or not? Is she constipated? Could it be her tummy getting used to the formula?
She's on Karicare Gold BTW.

Sounds like her tummy is getting used to the formula.

My DS usually poos once a day. The colour is greeny, yellow and can be grainy. It is usually quite thick, I joke and call it Mr Whippy!!

But as TripleTime said she is probably still getting used to it. :)

Nic, both my kiddies got backed up on formula, all i did when making the bottle was put and extra 5 ml of water than it says, but the same amount of powder, and fixed them right up in a few days, you probably will have her back breastfeeding by then to bother, but yeah she would just be adjusting, formula is heaps thicker.

From what I understand, most formula fed babies poo less often than breast fed bubs. Nothing to worry about as long as bubs poos arent really hard and they dont seem in pain when passing them :)

Thanks for that guys! I forgot I started this thread. You were all right though, just her system getting used to it and she's been pooping like a trooper the last few days.

Yep bf babies poo much more regulary (and more watery) than ff bubs, DS usually goes 1-2 times a day and is ff.

Sounds normal ! Colour isn't necessarily a worry more the consistancy. If it were mucousy then you would have to keep an eye on things or if passing hard pellets ... Anything & everything inbetween is normal !

Breastfed babes can actually fall into the routine of going only once a week or even up to 2wks .... Those are SCARY !!!! That is when you start battening down the hatches & covering everything in plastic waiting on the poo-nami !!!!
