My DS has just learnt to stand up holding onto furniture. I'm okay with that! But he's standing up in the cot when he's meant to be sleeping and howls his head off cos he can't sit back down. I apologise if this is a really really stupid question but how do I deal with this!! I put him down sleepy and then I think he realises he's in the cot, surrounded by 4 rails to hold onto and decides to stand up. Do they grow out of this or do I just keep persisting, going in, putting him back down etc. He doesn't get put in a sleeping bag for day sleeps. Keen to hear how others have tackled this. I'm just a bit clueless right now!

Ahh yes, I remember that stage! We had a few weeks of him letting go and banging his head :( I was really worried about it so I started going in, not talking to him or giving him eye contact or anything or anything but just lying him straight back down once he got up.. it only lasted a few weeks then he stopped doing it for a few weeks and then, before I knew it... he could get down again.

Practise makes perfect, he will learn in his own time how to get down alone, until then support him.

i read somwhere, turn it into a game one day, put him on the bed, make him stand and then push him into sittng position. he will learn its ok, and that he wont hurt himself

goodluck!
give me a month and ill be dealing with the same thing!!

Also as you get him to fall on his nappy in the seated position. As he is standing and your playing your game tap him on the backs of the knees to cause his legs to bend so that he falls into the seated position and not just straight back. But as smashlee suggested I also think you should make it a game.
