View Full Version : When to stop wrapping bubs??
We are still wrapping DS who is 8 months old, i am starting to think he is getting too big for this, but it seems the only way to settle him. Plus he is just so active if we put him in his cot unwrapped he is soon standing up and screaming! lol. So what other methods worked for you once you stopped wrapping bubs??
Cheers!

I have heard that wrapping should stop around the age of 6 months, but i dont really think its necessary and is usually only the case because they begin to fuss and unwrap themselves. Im currently looking after a 14 month child who still likes to be wrapped as its a settling technique which seems to be the only one that works for her. So if its working and hes not breaking free I dont think there really is a need to stop it, you might like to start only wrapping his body with his arms free if you're not doing that at the moment to give him a little more freedom but besides that my advice is wrap until you feel he doesnt need it :)

We still wrap the boy - 8 months tomorrow - for his daytime sleeps (though i think i will have to make some bigger wraps soon) but he has a sleeping bag for the night. It took us a while to have him settled (about three weeks) sleeping with his arms loose, but we got there. I just tuck his arms under the blnkets snugly and if he wont settle i just stand next to the cot and hold his arms down (not forcefully) gently and say 'shhhh' and he is off in no time in most cases. It took a bit cause everytime he moved his arms about once he was asleep he would wake up and cry but we had to do it cause otherwise he was waking up in a right mess cause he had gotten out of his wrap and the only way we could resettle was to feed and this was happening at least twice a night! So it took a bit but we got there. But we still wrap for the day cause this is how he will settle best for his day sleeps.
But elliot is no where near standing up on his own yet! Wowser - you must be run off your little toes!
Good luck but i wouldnt worry! I know people who have wrapped well after 12 months.
I have mainly been wrapping his little arms in and that does settle him, that's good to know others are still wrapping their bubs at this age. And yeah, he is very active, crawled at 6 months, 7 months was standing and cruising around the furniture and at 8 months he is just unstoppable! lol
I started to worry about this also as I could never get bub to sleep without being wrapped. We just converted to a sleeping bag and tuck the arms in, works fine.
Crawled at six months  omg!! You mustbe busy!!
My bub hated being wrapped, but i think keep doing it until bubs doesnt like it, it wont do any harm, i know of adults who love being really tucked in so they cant move in their bed, nothing wrong with them, just the way they sleep - everyone is different. Although might be a prob in summer??
Hi,
My MCHN told me to stop wrapping when they can roll - as if they are wrapped they can't put their arms out to stop themselves from lying face down.
hope that is of some help!!
