Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone else had a long AF? For the last few cycles mine has lasted for 9 - 11 days. It starts with very light spotting for 2 days then a normal AF for 5 - 6 days then spotting again for 3 days.
I have long cycles as well (anywhere from 33 - 48 days).

Do you think a long AF could affect my fertility or TTC?

Thanx

Hi L.J.

I used to have those same symptoms until I was diagnosed with PCOS (poly cycstic ovary syndrome)
I would see your Dr just for peace of mind

PCOS can play havoc with your fertility thats for sure!

Hi Tigerlillie,
Thanx so much for your reply.
I was actually diagnosed with Polysystic ovaries a few years ago but my FS says I don't have the syndrome (only the PCO) if that makes any sense. The reason I was worried about my long periods is that it has only been like this the last 5 months or so. I wonder if I could end up getting the syndrome?? Yes I think I will go and see my FS.
Thanx again

Yes definately needs investigating. I also had this problem and ended up having a hysteroscopy to fix it but I was also bleeding inbetween periods after awhile too. A hysteroscopy is a simple proceedure and I fell pregnant not long after!

I had long (approx 2 weeks) AF after my first, and my cycle (which had previously been a regular 32 days) increased also (so the non-AF days stayed at 28 + 2 weeks of AF).

I was using a timing method for contraception, and when I mentioned to my doctor about the extended AF and extended cycles, she told me to adjust the unsafe time from days 10-20 to days 15-25. I followed her advice and fell pregnant the very next month.
