A new study is being launched to investigate the relationship between maternal well-being and employment in Australian mothers. It is hoped that the results from the study will contribute to a greater understanding of which employment and demographic circumstances are most beneficial for mothers’ mental health in order to design appropriate intervention measures.

Women who (i) are aged over eighteen, (ii) have one or more children under the age of six, and (iii) reside in Australia are invited to complete a short questionnaire, regardless of whether they are involved in paid employment or not. The questionnaire takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and submissions are completely anonymous and confidential. To view the questionnaire or to find out more about the study, please go to http://www.dlsweb.rmit.edu.au/appsci/found-psychology/survey/cdm/

Thank you for supporting this worthwhile study! :)

A big thank you to all of you who have contributed to the study so far! :)

I can think of one hundred reasons why this research is really important but if I had to give you one in particular, I would say that it is important because it gives Australian women a platform to share their experiences of motherhood for THEMSELVES. What literature we do have out there focuses on the economical value of having mothers in the workforce or the social/political ramifications of not having mothers in the workforce, but so little actually looks at the experiences of real live women who make the choice to stay at home or enter the workforce after they have had children. Consequently, I don’t believe we truly appreciate what it is really like to be a mother in modern Australia and I don’t think there is enough recognition or support services for those whose wellbeing may be at risk.

So please, if you haven't had an opportunity to have a look at the study weblink yet or if you know someone else who may be interested, please go to The Competing Demands of Motherhood Questionnaire (http://www.dlsweb.rmit.edu.au/appsci/found-psychology/survey/cdm/) !!
