It depends a lot on what age. My DS is almost 3 and no longer naps during the day on most days. Sometimes I think he really still needs it, but he fights it. So, when I feel it's essential I make sure we are driving home from somewhere after lunch. Lucky for me he drops off in the car easily.
If they aren't tired they just won't sleep. My DS stopped day naps around 2.5yrs and has had not one since - and believe me, I tried everything to make him sleep!!!Now he just goes to bed at night an hour earlier. It took me a long time to accept his day naps were over
Good luck! I have heard sometimes kids will go through a period of no day naps, then after a few months revert back to them.
It depends on the age. Mine all gave up naps between 18 months and about two years, and nothing I did after that would make them sleep, although occasionally they might take themselves off for a sleep by themselves.
My DS has just started to drop off his day sleep, quite gradually though....he probably naps 4 out of 7 days.
On the days where he doesn't want to actually 'sleep' I still put him in bed with a book or a toy car and let him have 'rest' time for about an hour or so. Sometimes when I do that he ends up falling asleep anyway!
On the days when he doesn't have a nap in the afternoon he goes to bed quite early 6.30-7 & as per his usual he doesn't wake until 9ish in the morning!
I hope he doesn't fully drop his sleeps anytime soon, Mummy needs her quiet time
