Just wondering if people think there should be another $1,000 handed out to workers, parents, or whoever and your thoughts on this :)

I think if they are going to give out more money EVERYONE should get it. Not just one group of people. There was a lot of complaining about the $900 that was only for tax payers, then the $1000 for parents.
im sure everyone would enjoy 1000 dollars of free money but thats just it, its not free it has to be payed back some how wit taxes or the funding taken from something else. Also it was to stimulate the economy and the economy is doing alot better now hence the interest rates on the up, So no i dont think its a good idea
No.... I think a cash stimulus at this point wouldn't serve as great a purpose as it did initially.....
The money would better served being directly invested in employment opportunities and training, etc....

I agree with this. It's not free, it all has to come from somewhere and as much as it would be nice to have money thrown in my direction, it just can't happen without implications in the future.

no. Don't get me wrong, I'd love another grand, but as others have said, the money was to stimulate the economy and it worked. Another payout would only serve to create more debt and would really be redundant economy wise.
I'd prefer it to go into the health system.
It was sad when I was in hospital the nurses weren't changing the nose feeding tube in the SCN unless the absolutely HAD to because they were down to 3 and couldn't buy more :(
In some areas the hospitals are behind in payments to butchers and medical suppliers and that is affecting the patients too.

I think it's good the money went to taxpayers. At least it made some people go and do their tax return.

On what basis? Is it currently being discussed in Australia?

.
I agree.
The lump sum payments were for a specific purpose, and that need has arguably passed.

I think most groups were covered. There was one for pensioners as well. My grandfather is on an aged pension and my brother on DSP, and they both received a cash bonus.
And people on youth allowance received one.
I think pretty much the only group who didn't receive one were people on newstart.
That money was given to keep us out of recession - it worked. There is no fear of recession now so it is not required. Any more money being thrown out to the public would only cause interest rates to go up & that is never a good thing.

I voted yes, but only because I would love another $1000 to put in the savings account.....
I agree with every one else, it would be a bad decision by the government in the long run most definately

No it isn't, but I saw the old thread people have been posting in and there were a few who got excited thinking there was another one on the way. Thought I'd ask. I personally don't think there should be as stated earlier.

That's what I was going to say. :)
Well Im going to go against the grain and say yes...
Id actually like to see people see more of their tax $$, let's face it that $$ isnt go to go into better health or education...
There are people living on the poverty line what is the point of better health if they cant afford a roof over their heads?
I also dont see the harm in continuing to stimulate the economy if that's the case obviously within reason but we all know it costs a fortune to raise kids and Australia has a high cost of living even as a one income family we struggle big time and my mum who is a pensioner well I wont even go there!!!
I think pensioners, single parents and low income earners and unemployed families (though there are those wroughting the system anyway) should get the bonus again, i think a once year bonus would help lift people somewhat above the poverty line.
I just feel for people that struggle and in this day it really is alot of people...

It's a resounding "NO" from me.

The problem with continuing to stimulate an economy that doesn't need it is the effect it has on inflation and thus increasing interest rates..... it's pointless, and if anything is not beneficial at all...
No.. as much as I would like the money.

Normally I would agree but we are only just on the other side of it and it is only just picking up I wouldnt suggest spending long term but I still think it needs it to a small extent... JMO anyway as someone who has spent my whole life struggling I hate seeing others struggling too...

The economy is a tight balancing act. There is a fine line between stimulating an economy in recession, and stimulating further and having interest rates rise. Granted, most low income earners like us can't get a home loan to begin with, but it's all a knock on effect. Higher interest rates mean lower spending, means less money to businesses, means less jobs and money.
The reserve bank hasn't raised rates so atm it's all at a good equalibrium.

Haven't really thought about it, but I certainly wouldn't be complaining if I was given $1000...

I think the Government was crazy for doing the first lot.
Kevin Rudd was given this country debt free now we will be paying this debt to China for years and years to come.
I think he would be crazy to do it again.

Absolutely definitely NOT.
Australia's economy didn't go into recession, and now it's growing a bit too quick.
With the growth in the economy will come a rise in inflation, up goes the CPI and up goes interest rates.
I have a mortgage and a credit card and don't want interest rates to rise. I have a job, I don't want tax rates to rise.
BTW - the last of the stimulus is still rolling out with the schools building projects - before we get greedy and hold out our hands, lets see what happens in the final wash of the last of the current Stimulus Packages

This is just my opinion, but it was sound economic policy to pull us out before the hold got too big to crawl out of. Look at the US. The reason we were one of the best placed countries was bc of the 2 stimulus packages.
Recession means employers don't have jobs to offer, they go under, people get on CL in droves bc they've lost their jobs. Which long term would be even more costly than the package.
But doing another one would not be good policy.
mmm i would love another free $1000, but like my Dad always told me NOTHIG IN THIS WORLD IS FREE
I agree delirium.... the proof is in the pudding.... we avoided recession, are one of the only major economies globally that maintained even slight economic growth....
His policy was well timed and well placed.....but another cash stimulus would not be beneficial to the Australian economy and keeping it stable....

I dont, I work but as I was just under the tax threshold I didnt get the money... which was a shame as the last few years I had paid tax and as someone who worked and looked after a child at home I dont understand why I didnt deserve it.
In saying that, no, I dont think there should be any more stimulus, much as we are in dire need of the money at the moment what's the point as we'll all end up worse off in the long run paying higher taxes to cover the cost of the stimulus.

Hmm...does anyone think the last lot of stimulus wasn't actually what kept us out of recession? I'm not too sure either way, but I find it strange that people are so quick to assume it did the trick. I would think trade prices with asia would have been a big part of it...
Oh yeah I would love some more...lol But no I think its a bad idea in theory.

Its no assumption. I dont think trade prices with Asia kept consumers spending;). The stimulus did though.
The FHOG, the cash bonuses and the money allocated to rebuilding our schools kept the unemployment down and kept the economy flowing.

I think the pensioners and carers would benefit from $1000. I think it is a bit disgusting that parents with a disabled child only get $104 a fortnight.

In my case with the amount that DH earns. I get family tax benefit part B and carers allowance. The carers allowance is $104 a fortnight. We are spending over $500 a fortnight just on therapy. I get $260 a fortnight all up. The other day i got new clothes for the first time in 2 years. The $1000 here would go towards therapy and maybe buying a new washing machine because i am sick of hand-washing half our clothes because our washing machine is on its last legs.

Oh yeah fair enough. Im sure everyone could use the money this time of year...Or any time of year lol.
What gets me though is that my bil is on some kind of disability pension (he is 13) but he is completely fine apart from a throat/breathing thing..Not sure. and doesnt need constant medical attention. So I just wonder why would someone like him need the money. I get though as in your case you need therephy etc.
Sorry was just curious.

Well, my bank account is saying YES PLEASE!
But in all seriousness in regards to how 'helpful' it will be, I don't think so. I think the economy is on the up (clearly so does the RBA!) so it would be money wasted and than I'd have to work even harder to pay the rent because all my dollars would be taken out paying for another stimulus package.
