what age for straw sippycups?

ds2 is nearly 9mths old, and currently drinking from a spout cup..just wondering what age u gave your bub one of the cups with the straw tops?

I know with DD it was around the 11 month mark but she didn't really use a cup much until 9-10 months (BF and showed no interest in the whole cup thing)
DS on the other hand has had a sippy cup for ages and does fairly well with it not sure if he would "get" the straw though - you can but try maybe grab a cheap pack of straws and see if he an get the sucking thing first (before spending more on a straw cup you might not use) at least if DS2 can't do it yet DS1 will get a kick out of using a straw sometimes.:yes:

i bought a pack of nuby bottles when jazzy was a little bub, that have interchangeable lids, teat, spout and straw, he never even used the teat one, but will happily use the spout..just cant remember back to bayli and when he went to a straw!

DD used a staw from about 6 months. I didn't want her to have trouble getting used to straws since they are so convenient, so we started her with the early. We also used the Nuby ones and DD had no trouble working out how to get drink from it. And since the Nuby straws don't leak (well not too much) when she got confused and turned the cup up to try and drink like a regular sippy cup we didn't end up with a huge mess. :thumbsup:

The great thing is after they get the hang of a soft silicone straw then if you are caught out without a sippy cup you can grab a regular straw from anywhere and chuck it into a bottle of water and share with your kid!

We gave him the straw cup first, so I think he's been having it from about 6 or 7 months.

I get confused with all the different designs. I'm sure it's just a scam to sell 3 kinds of cups.:D

He's 13 months so I'm trying to work out whether I'm meant to change him to a non-straw cup.:confused:

DS was about 9 months, didn't know they really existed until then.

At 2.3yrs he now just has a water bottle with a turn type top and up pops the spout, like a pump water bottle. The small ones are only like $2.60 in Big W :thumbsup:

DD I've just got her a nuby sippy cup, but thinking I might get some straw ones, see how she goes on those.

straw cup at around 6.5 mths, it's great, i forget his drink bottle all the time so now i can just buy a bottle of water, stick a straw in it and away we go!
took about a day for him to figure it out.

he now loves sucking it in and spitting it back at me. hilarious :rolleyes:
