So my bubba is nearly 13 weeks old. He still wakes once per night, sometimes twice....

We have had the occasional night where he has slept from 7pm till 3am 4am 430am or 5am ( I class the 5am one as sleeping thru the night....I'd be quite happy if that were to continue)

However I seem to be one in a minority in my New Mothers Group, of women who's bubba ISNT sleeping thru....most of the mums are getting 10 or 12 hours every night!

So I'm just interested to know what age did your baby start sleeping through the night?

9wks with my first.

10mths with my second.

8mths with my third.

It all depends on the baby really, some are just more settled than others. Hang in there though, it will happen. Just make sure you continue with the bedtime routine eeach night.

From the people I know a lot of babies start 'sleeping through', from a few months old or younger. Then they get to 6 months and it goes down hill from there. My first slept through from 12 weeks and Millie sleeps through about half the time (she started that at 8 weeks). But I am expecting that to change in a couple of months. My two year old still doesn't sleep through!

It seems to vary widely from baby to baby. Our first was 9 months-he was still feeding 2 hrly at four months. Our DD slept through from 9 weeks and our litlle bubba is still waking at least 2 times if not 3, for a feed.

Hey, my 32 year old husband never sleeps through!! He, like a baby, needs a milk feed in the middle of the night. He gets up and has a big drink of milk around 1am. He is odd, but it may explain his lack of maturity at times.....:p

Anyway, back to the topic: I agree HL, in the early days they all sleep a lot, then as they turn from "newborns" into "babies" things change. I see it as developmentally normal.
I co-sleep with Curtis, and I honestly have not felt sleep deprived yet. He's 10 weeks old. Some nights I feel tired, and in the first 2 weeks it was hard to adjust to having a newborn again, but now that breastfeeding is a piece of cake, I just slide him over towards me (we've got a side car) and he has a little feed then we both go back to sleep. And bamboo nappies means no changing overnight, unless he's pooey.

DD slept through from 2 months. But the day she turned 6 months it stopped.

That would suck, getting used to getting a full nights sleep then having to start getting up again.

When mine started sleeping through they stayed sleeping through (though Matthew wakes 2-3 times a night if he's sick). But both my boys started waking up at around 5:30am from the age of 2, making me a zombie mum, lol.

My DS never slept thru until he was 18 months! He was a very hard bub...lots of probs with him..but he is nearly 4 and just perfect now!

On the otherhand my DD is 5 months old...from about 6 weeks until 4 months old she slept for about 10-12 at night which was great......in the last month she has decided to wake up twice for feeds!! I have heard that this is very very common to happen...I think someone may have already mentioned that. Between 4-6 months they develop so much, things change...yeah its kinda hard to get used to getting up again during the night though! I normally just try and put her dummy back in to see if she will resettle....I just know that in her own time she will sleep longer again!

Still not!! But he's just spaced out his night feeds more - I usually get a 4-5 hr stretch now between about 2am and 7am. So it's getting better.

Eliza sleeps through most nights in 6 hour stints so down between 7-9 then up at midnight or 3am then down again until 7am has done since she was a week old but When she's on a growth spurt she wakes up to 3 times a night eats for 10 mins and is back down again. :D Anyway I bet many who say they are sleeping through are deluding themselves!

I guess I should count myself lucky by the sounds of things!!!!

I didnt realise so many babies dont sleep thru!

Oliver wakes sometime between midnight and 2am usually, and wakes up again between 5am and 7am.

He has a 7pm-730pm bedtime...I always aim for 7pm, but occasionally it isnt possible.....

*YAWN*.....fingers crossed, I'm just getting sooo tired....!!!!

9wks with Hannah
6wks with Bec

But I was bottlefeeding at that time though so I don't know if that had anything to do with it?

DS is 1 next week and he only sleeps through occasionally. Sometimes he might go for 3 or 4 nights in a row of sleeping through but then he'll go for a couple of weeks of waking several times a night. I still get a little sad when he sleeps through as it means I don't get my middle of the night snuggles - but I'm strange :p

Well, I can't say I know of any adults who don't sleep through the night.........

Seriously though, it does get better. It feels like it never will, but it does. There is light at the end of that tunnel, there is just a few dead ends along the way. I hope you can both have a nap today.

I don't know if I could say it has gotten 'better' for us, but I'm more used to it.:o With my DS (2), when he wakes he's usually has had a bad dream and with a little cuddle goes straight back to sleep. So you aren't awake for long. I must admit I function on little or no sleep so much better than I did 2 years ago!

DD i can't remember (too sleep deprived  ) but it was sometime after she turned 1.

DS has slept from 8-8 from 8 weeks old (has woken up a couple of times at 6. had a bottle and gone back to sleep).

Mischief, I think you seriously need a "My baby has never slept through" option. My DD is 19 months and never has - unless you count her sleeping from 7pm to 4am 3 times in her life?

But then again, I don't sleep through either - and I'm 36!

Having said that, at least at this stage it is relatively easy to get her back to sleep when she wakes - I'll never forget the stage she went through when she decided it was playtime at 2am in the morning for a few months!

I didnt think to put one in until it was too late!...LOL

I dont sleep thru either.....thats half the problem...if i could go straight back to sleep I'd be FINE, but I cant, I lay awake for another hour trying to getmyself back to sleep.

Maybe its inherited...mum said I didnt sleep thru until I was about 2! ARRRGGGG LOL

Sorry, I revived this poll because I can now officially vote in my own. :)

Oliver started sleeping thru about 2 weeks ago! I'm thrilled. Ive only had to get up once to feed him before 6am in the past 2 weeks. Most nights he sleeps from 7pm till 6am and plays happily in his cot until 7am! :)

I love Tizzie Hall!

What was the Tizzy Hall advice that helped? DD is 3.5 months old and WAS sleeping 6.00pm to 2.00am to 6.00am but has now started waking a couple of times between 6.00pm and 2.00am

I can't wait till she goes 12 hours between feeds and I can stop going to bed at 8.30pm!

So tired . Any advice?

I'd be guessing that she is teething, hopefully it will only last a couple of weeks or so. :hugs:

Could be a growth spurt too. Oliver went thru one about that age as well.

The thing with Tizzie Hall is mainly learning the different crys, and not letting htem get too tired, or putting htem to bed before they are tired....

Oliver's routine is this..... (hope it helps)
7am - Up, feed
9am - down
11am - up, feed (he often wakes before this though)
1pm - down
3pm - up, feed
430pm - snooze, sometimes
6pm - feed
7pm - Bed
1030pm - Dreamfeed

The dreamfeed took a couple of weeks to help, but once he got used to it, its been wonderful!

Thanks for your reply. :)

I'm pretty good at recognising her different cries and I make sure she has enough play time and gets put in her bassinette as soon as she is showing tired signs.

I think she is going through a MAJOR growth spurt at the moment though. She is wanting to sleep lots during the day and in the last two days has completely changed her night time routine and feeding times during the day! Her last feed of the day was 5.00pm but it's now shifted to 7.30pm and she's gone through till 5.00am the last two nights but she's been having very restless night sleeps. When she wakes I check if she's hungry and she's not so I just re-settle her. Hopefully things will smooth themselves out in the next week or so :fingerscrossed:.

DD1 20 mths old
DD2 is 7 mths and wakes anywhere from hourly to 2 times. However the less she wakes, the longer it takes to get her back to sleep, usually about 2 hrs! We spent 10 nights in a mother baby unit and nothing improved

I so need   its not funny anymore.

 My DD goes to bed at 6:00pm and gets up at 6:45am. However, she usually wakes 2 to 3 times in those 12 hrs. Sometimes i give her a fed or just a cuddle, it doesnt seem to make any difference in her waking - i also make sure she puts herself to sleep when i put her in the cot. They say as long as they can put themselves to sleep they are learning how to sleep properly. She sticks to this little routine no matter what i do. any suggestions??

My 10 week old has slept through for 5 nights in a row. Sometimes he will need a feed other times he will burp and then go back to sleep. I dont' expect that it will last but that's OK. It' when I go back to work that it will be a killer.

My DS1 has slept thru the night (only waking if sick) since about 6 months old. This happened after we went to sleep school (Tweedle in VIC), before this it was a constant battle to get him to sleep more than 2 hours at a time. My DP an I were at our wits end:banghead:
I'd advise anyone who isn't getting enough sleep to get help asap as it can really effect you, as we all know:thumbsdown:

My DD is 7 months, and is beginning to sleep through on a more regular basis, not consistent however even though we are very routined in our household. When she does wake it is very quick to settle her, so we are lucky in that respect. She goes to bed at 7pm, and this week has been waking around 5. Will sometimes then nap with me cuddling her, but come 6am it's time to start our day mummy!!!!:smiliedance: During the day generally she has 3 40 naps, but every 3 weeks or so suddenly has a 2-3 hour nap in the morning, today being one of those days. It was heavenly. The 6am start will be fine when I am back to work however would love that little extra sleep in at the moment, as would DH as he is trying to study, work and complete our neverending renovations. :ecomcity:

DD started sleeping through at 8 weeks. We have the odd night when she wakes and has to be resettled, but thats pretty rare and usually she will have a bit of a spew or a burp and be back of to sleep.
