Hello all,
I'm from the UK but am now living the high life (;) ) in Thornlie. Met my partner over here and fell pregnant pretty quickly. I guess I've not really had time to make good friends over here before my little boy (now 7 weeks old!) was born, so feeling a wee bit isolated with no family over here etc.
I was wanting to try and find a playgroup so that I could meet other mums, but my wee boy isn't old enough yet to be involved so its really something social for me I'm looking for. Does anyone know of any babygroup type things around?

Were there none organized through the hospital or you local HCN? They usually do them (well in most states anyway) Usually called Mums groups here and a great way to get to meet people, or check if the Perth groups here are having meetups.
Hope all is going well with your bub :)
As the PP said, you can try & find if the community nurse is running any new mothers groups in your area.
Otherwise, you can still go to playgroup with a baby. If you contact the playgroup assoc. in your area, they'll be able to tell you if there are any spots available & what ours does is try to put new members in groups with kids of similar ages. So there may be a group that have had newborn siblings, so as your DS grows, he'll have some kids around the same age to play with. Playgroups are a great way to meet new friends.
Also, do you have a local community centre? Sometimes they have some great things on for mums & bubs or even your local library.
There's also a section of bub hub broken into states. You could post something in your area & there might be other new mums who'd like to meet up for coffee or something.
ETA- LOL, I found your post in the new posts section, but can see you did post in the Perth bit, so disregard my last suggestion :)

Defiantly ring your health nurse in your area. My friend came over here from Indo & set her up with a mother's group from her health nurse.

Hope this helps! As I know how it feels being isolated from family. Mine are in America & my mother in Melbourne. Those first 6 months were a struggle for me without my mom around. My mother's group was amazing & we are all in playgroup together. It's really nice to have someone you can just ring up and say hi.

Wow, thanks for all the info. CHN has given me details of a parenting group thats starting up, and I'm gonna contacy some playgroups nearby.
I use to work at a library and helped out with storytime/rhymetime. Storytime was always immensely popular, but rhymetime could be a bit of a dissapointing turnout, which is a shame. Might go along and find out if its any more popular at my own library.
Thanks guys!

You can try banksia grove health clinic, they do a mothers ad me group for newborn until around crawling age. I went from with my boy from when he was about 4wks to 6months. He loved it and it was good for me to meet new people. Goodluck.
Bub isnt too young for playgroup :) I stated going when my bub was 4wks. I got to palm him off to my SIL and the other clucky ladies there while i relaxed. I made some friends and got out of the house. Its not just for bub its for you too.
You dont have to continue going if you dont like it. Go once and check it out :)
Congrats on bubba too :)
