View Full Version : Hug-a-Bub and my Heavyweight Bub

I currently have a ring sling...which is reasonable...but I realised (after buying it) that I can't put DD in a front position...she can only use it whilst sitting on my side. It makes me a bit unbalanced...and I'd much prefer her to be on my front.

I am considering perhaps getting a hug-a-bub...I've seen that they can be used with babies up to 16kg...DD is nearly 1 and 12kg already.

She loves to be hugged...and she always wants to be carried when we're out...but holding her weight up with my arms near kills me.

I'm pretty sure my body is strong enough to carry her heavy body...so long as it was positioned correctly.

Is it worth getting a hug-a-bub for an older baby? She doesn't yet walk...well, she took 12 whole steps on her own today...but that's the most she's ever done. Even if she DOES start walking soon, she'll probably still use her pram or whatever when we're shopping...that, or a hug-a-bub if it's worth it.

Has anyone had their chubby older bubby in a hug-a-bub? If so...how was it? Did it work well...or was it incredibly painful?

Thanks in advance!

My DD is only 7kg, and I have no trouble carrying her in a hug-a-bub for several hours at a time. It comes with a instruction dvd/video and they show women carriying toddlers in them. It would probably be ok, but someone who has a toddler might be able to give you a better answer :)

Same as Faemi!
Eliza is 7.2 kilos I do find that after say two hours my back is very sore and I need a break, but I have been having back troubles for years and I am a small person so I guess it depends on your strength and build!

I adore my hugabub but I waould have to say, she may be just a bit too big to carry her in one all the time. It would probably work out great for the times you use it but you may not get your monies worth from it.
What about a back carrier? I just bought one so DH can carry DS#2 a bit and he loves being in it. He is only 7kg but seems to balance well. And like my hugabub, I bought it on Ebay (cost about $20).:D

Try an Ergo or a Patapum. The support will be better for a bigger baby/child and you can use it for back carry as well.

Thanks for the replies!

Thanks for the suggestions Carlia...I took a look at the Ergo...but I don't think it suits what I want...but the Patapum looks promising.

Any ideas as to where I could fine one?

Google Patapum, I don't have a link for that  I know there is a lady in Perth who sells them on Ebay for around $100. A few of my friends have bought them from her. I have tried both Ergo and PAtapum, and while I have an Ergo, the Patapum is lovely. The design is simpler than the Ergo and looks more streamlined. Only downfall is that there are two sizes, onew for small babaies and one for bigger toddlers. My girl is 2 and a half, 12 kilos but very tall and is fine in the smaller size. My Ergo does come further up her back though. God that made no sense   PM me if you want some more info, I cannot seem to string a sentence together right now, lol!
