My friend has just found out that she is pregnant. She has her DD at Westmead in 2006 and had a pretty terrible experience, however she has heard that they have since upgraded the maternity unit. I've heard some good things about Hornsby and suggested she might like to check that out. Has anyone birthed at either of these hospitals in the last year or so and what did you think? Thanks :D

bump:)
It all depends where she lives. She'll have to go to the one that's in her area now.
In saying that, I've had 4 babies at Westmead, in 2002, 2003, 2008 & 2009. The new maternity bits are lovely & I've had no probs there at all. Would happily go back

Oh ok, she lives in Castle Hill like me so I guess that would mean Westmead.
I birthed at Westmead, had fantastic midwives during the birth, and the birthing room was great with the deep bath. Only stayed overnight so can't comment on the post-natal care.

I had my daughter at Hornsby in Sep 2005 and the entire experience was great. The midwives were helpful, supportive and knowledgeable, and the facilities were quite adequate. I had a water birth there, which was a major plus!!
Since then, they have opened their new maternity ward and it has been getting very good reviews. I am due with #2 in June 2010 and have booked in to go back to Hornsby again.
I live in Pennant Hills, which is in the Hornsby catchment. Not sure which area Castle Hill falls into.
I am in Winston hills and closest is Westmead.. pretty sure Castle Hills will be the same. This is my first pregnancy so fingers crossed for a good experience at Westmead
