View Full Version : TTC and exercise
Hi, im new to posting on this website but have been reading from time to time. Im not sure if a thread like this already exists, apologies if it does!
Im 33 years old and have been off the pill for exactly 12 months now. My periods are only now what you would call 'normal' being 30 days.
I have been getting really down about this whole TTC and everymonth when i see AF is like a little stab. Anyway, my question is, does exercise, mainly running, affect the chances of implantation? I hear so many conflicting views, some say to cut back on exercise, whereas some say to exercise regularly. Have done BD this week as im 95% sure i am 'O', but have also not stopped exercising... ARgggh, so frustrating. Any thoughts?

Just do whatever is normal for your body and that you would normally do....
When I was TTC (and during my PG!!) I still got up at 4am, rode and fed the horses, stacked 100's of bales of hay....the list goes on. Would've killed someone not used to it, but it was the NORM for my body
If you normally exercise and your body is used to it, then don't change  The only time this would be different is if you were someone training at the elite level and going 'above and beyond the norm' because yes, that does play havoc with your body and can actually stop you cycling properly. If you have normal cycles and know you're ovulating, then keep doing what you're doing :D
At the end of the day - just be healthy and good luck! :hugs:
Hi
I agree with Equine Mum, do what is normal for your body and what you're comfortable with. I got my BFP last week and I go to the gym up to 4 times a week and do classes like Pump, Step, Combat and Pilates. To be honest it never occurred to me that it could affect implantation. Just don't overdo it and you should be fine. If anything, incorporating exercise into your life will only benefit you
All the best hun.
EquineMum thankyou so much for your quick reply. That is what i thought too, as my body is used to training, that It wouldnt affect my chances. I have my fingers and toes crossed that this month is the month (ha ha, i say that everymonth).
Thanks Punky81.
I think my fear comes from hearing that when you actually are pg that you cant let your body over heat, so am thinking if its over heating when the sperm and egg are meeting that it might not work. TTC is playing with my head and sense of rationality!

The best advice I was ever given when I was PG is that if I was out of breath and not getting enough oxygen, then neither was my placenta and thus my baby. I could push myself, but the minute I felt out of breath, I would slow down and catch my breath before I started again.
With PG, it's not so much about temp, but more about heart rate. I have a very close GF who kept doing her pump, step and cycle classes right up until a couple of weeks before she gave birth, she just kept a heart rate monitor on. So long as her heart rate remained under a certain level (think it was 140 but check that!!) then her OB was happy for her to push herself as hard as she felt OK with. Interestingly she wore the heart rate monitor when DTD with her DH once whilst PG and when she orgasmed, her heart rate shot sky high, but very quickly came back down again. A peak like that followed by a return to normal is not the least bit harmful.
Try and stop stressing and just relax and enjoy TTCing. Stress and worry DOES effect TTC
