View Full Version : Cloth Bum-Wipes!
After I've removed myself from the whole "Eww wiping poop with cloth." factor and said "For cripe's sake woman, grow up!" and also "Gee, wouldn't that save a lot of money.." I decided that not only will my girl have a little cloth butt, but she'll be wiped with little cloth wipes!
SO. Here's the only question that I need answered....
How many wipes will I need?
OH, and what have you found to work best? (Ooo that was two questions! I'm pushin' it..)
I'm thinking (thanks to veve) that I'll just buy some of the el-cheapo thin flannels from Big W and fill a container with water and use that for wipin', but yeah.. no offence to dear Veve but I would like other opinions on the matter so I can reject what I will but claim I was informed first ;)
No, really, you know what I mean.
Thanks a million guys! I don't know what I'd do without the 'hub!
(also I think this little dude is under represented on the hub so I'll use him again...)
Glad to see you are over the eeeewwwwwwwwww, i thought i was until today when i lifted DS's bum up to wipe and got a squirt of orange breastfeed baby poo shot straight at my forehead :barf: Anyway on to your q- i think you need as many wipes as you need nappies, cause you use a wipe at each change. Maybe 15 to be safe, sometimes its a 2 wipe job! I was going to sew some pretty wipes then remembered i cant sew so i dug out all the ugly, oldish looking facewashers from the cupboard and have been using those with some water and a drop of olive oil. As long as its wet and material i dont think it matters really:yes: good luck anyway Nikki, and beware of that black newborn poo with any good nappies you have.
*blink*
*sniff*
ok ... I"ll .. just... be.. over here in the corner with my advice... *sob*
Oh pish-posh you. Go sit with the fridge.
And Stella... Interesting about the orange poop... I think I'll have to get a welders mask now.. ooo that would nearly make an interesting pro-hart piece.
me,me,me VEVE i want your advice- see my thread pls! Nikki doesn't appreciate you:D

WELL .. I"m glad that SOMEONE appreciates me ... *sniff*
I PROMISE that after I feed my nagging DH .. I will check out your thread stellaj.. and offer only the soundest of advice  ... (you're not like that horrid seekrit lady .. she is just plain MEAN!!)

Seekrit, your posts always crack me up...glad to see you still have a sense of humour when so close to the big Delivery Day :D
I use plain white facewashers I bought from Spotlight (really cheap). I proberly have about 20 I use in rotation. ( I chose white for the bum jobs as I use the coloured ones on her in the bath)
I use plain water in a cleaned out soap on tap dispenser. I did try the squirter bottle but got the cranks on when the stupid trigger thing died.
So I just squirt some water on the folder facewasher ,wipe and VOILA! the face washer picks up the poo much better than any commercial baby wipe I have used.
As for the Poo YUCK and ICK factor....I still want to gag when I have to do it and my daughter was born back in November!!!

Squirty Poo is bad...............very bad.
I have used flannelette cloths that I got sent with some nappies.
Some of the ideas are very good, spec. yours CLM, I would never have thought it.
Sometimes it is good just to use the cloth with no wipe.
ooo CLM! that's fantastic advice.. and using white ones too  I have really cheap, yellow, ugly bunny rugs to use on the change-mat because they're the one colour so I won't get them mixed up!
You're a genius!
And soap-on-tap-squirtie.. great idea too :D (as long as that's the only thing that squirts.........)
*sniff*
EXCUSE ME .. what is different between using washers from spotlight and washers from big w?? huh?? huh?? why is SHE a genius and I am in the corner with the fridge??? what???
*sniff* I'm throwing a tanty now... (just cause she said white ones... the ones at big w a different.. I will give her credit .. the soap dispenser thing is clever... but I'm in the corner.. feeling very unappreciated.. and .. I happen to like my wipes... but if you dont want my advice.. fine.. will be remembered fatty)
veve, would you like this floor to give others YOUR wonderful advice?
I do love and appreciate you. But yes, you do need some more time with the fridge if you're going to continue acting like this, young lady! AND IF I HAVE TO TURN THIS CAR AROUND, SO HELP ME I'LL DO IT!

You forgot to say Stunningly Beautiful as well!!!! ohhh hang on you have never seen me before (consider yourself lucky in that respect :D )
Good idea to use the ugly bunny rugs on the change table
After admiring my pretty changetable cover and how sweet it all looked then having my daughter pee on it during a change I decided to put a cheap water proof nappymat on top of the nice pretty (and bloody expensive grrrrrr) change table mat.
On top of this I put one of the gazillion bunny rugs and or a terry cloth nappy.
So if there are any piddle or tragic poo spills, I just whip it off and throw in the wash.
I did have every intention of using the terry squares with snappis, but I just love my stash of pockets and fitteds and so far havent run out!

umm, excuse me, Miss veve,
Are you using the nappies for J or are you the one wearing them :o ?
She's wearing them and no one's changed her for a while... :/ that's why she's cranky and stinky
rofl sop...
I'm afraid there isn't enough fabric in the world to make a nappy to fit my behind..
so Jack gets to wear all the pretty things ..

Yes pretty things. I have to confess to becoming a hyena and a good one at that *bows down before the marvel that is broadband*
Your bum is fine.................But now I know why you befriend all the really good nappy makers.

I do love to talk nappies though - you HAVE to come to the next brissie gathering ..

What about using polar fleece instead of washers?
Would that be more effective, less effective, just as effective...?

Hmmm the fleece is what most use as liners.
I tend to find the poo rolls off it, but have used it in desperation.
I personally prefer the face washers :D

I've got cheap white facewashers from Spotlight, and I keep a supply in a lunchbox of chamomile tea. I chuck the washers in with the nappies for dry pailing and washing.
I find the chamomile cleans better than just straight water.
I replied first- points for that Nikki? :D

I use facewashers i agree with CLM the polar fleece will just repel the poo lol.
Plus being so thick etc it helps you get over the ickiness factor cause trust me trying to get the darn disposable wipes to come out of the packet in the first place then needing like 30 just to get everything off without covering yourself you will be grateful for that wonderful piece of towelling !
I used to make up chammomile tea & use this but these days im lazy so its just a case of wetting a washer when its needed. Same with when i go out i take dry wipes & wet as needed no major drama.
I got a stash of mine at Spotlight as well as Best & Less even just recently picking up 10 for $1 !!!! I was so proud of my bargain !!!
So i now have roughly 30 all up & i have to say im a sucker for darker colours like blues etc as i like taking these when we go out as the stains ( if we have any ) dont show up on these !
Yes yes im strange i have facewashers that are used as bum wipes that are only used to go out yes yes weird blah blah what can i say i have going out bibs also so why not bum wipes ?!?!?!?!?!?!
going out bum wipes? LOL i thought going out nappy was pretty bad!

Ooooohhhh - sorry for crashing, but I LOVE the face washers sitting in the chamomile tea waiting to be used - that's fabulous. I will be trying that one. I just have dry face washers and wet them with a spray bottle of watter with a dash of baby wash in it. I have varying shades of blue as we use white in the bath. I have to own up to using commercial wipes when we go out though :o
Damn, I'm so excited about that lunchbox full of chamomile tea face washers. I think I need to go out and get a life :o

stellaj_79 - Yes im a shocker LOL !!!! :o
Lol Riss !!!!!
Dont worry i get excited about all those sorts of things everyone i know thinks i have lost the plot cause im cloth addict etc .... Ok well i have lost it but still  :p
many points for you Stella! :D No sweat.
I got the polar fleece because I was looking on ebay for cheap face washers (although 10 for $1 Ally...!!!!) and someone was selling polar-fleece squares and I thought "well, I can just buy some of that from spotlight and chop it" but if it repels (which I thought it might  (ooh there he is again)) then yeah.
going out bumwipes eh? I was just going to stick with 'sposie wipes for that. :p (mind you, 6 months ago I was going to have a 'sposie bum out.. but my mind seems to have changed from that)

I do chamomile on pieces of cut up chux in a ziplock bag for going out wipes. Nice and compact.
I can wash the ones which were just used for a wet bot for reuse, and chuck the messy ones out.

Ahhhhh - yet another suggestion that has me extremely excited!!! :o
as long as you don't start sniffing the wipes, MammaBear... I'd hate for you to pick up the wrong one and be correctly termed a Brown-Noser.

Yeah ive tried this but maybe i do things wrong as i find the poo can squelch through the holes & being thinner they dont seem to catch everything whereas the facewashers i find grab everything in one go !
Riss - Its official your sucked in your becoming addicted :p

Hey I do that too! Nice going out Bibs rather than the feral ones that get food splattered here. Gabrielle is a HUGE dribbler so the poor child never seems to be without one on. So perhaps I am strange too???

Oh yayayaya !!!
Thanks CLM least we can be strange together :p
Boof was teething from birth so thats why ive always kept his "nice" bibs for going out cause they match certain outfits & it looks nicer than drool everywhere LOL !
Then the yucky stained bibs are for home, mind you ive gotten rid of a lot of mine now that he is getting older he doesnt need as many !
